As some of you have already noticed we have added a link to The
Adventure Shop
for your convenience in downloading games. We have chosen The Adventure Shop for downloading games with the same confidence that we introduced InteractCD for purchasing boxed versions, so that you have a safe and secure place to purchase your games from, with great customer service.

Before you ask questions, please be sure to fully read the following links. I think you will find that most, if not all questions can be answered by reading the info provided.

The Adventure Shop Help

The Adventure Shop - How it Works

Terms and General Conditions

If you still have questions, please post them here and here only. We, as well as the Adventure Shop team, will be available to answer questions.

Please keep in mind that this is a thread for any questions you may have about utilizing the Adventure Shop for downloads and it is not a thread to discuss download vs. boxed preferences etcetera. I believe we have covered those opinions quite extensively in the past and the bottom line is, please choose the method of purchase that makes you happy. yes GameBoomers is only providing the opportunity to give you choices.

BrownEyedTigre, thanks for the recommendation.

I looked around the site a bit. Very well designed and a great selection of titles. This will prove to be a boom for the adventure game community.

Having this said, I have some reserverations though; perhaps they can be answered in the forum here:

1. What is the relationship between The Adventure Shop and AdventureGamers? Are they partially owned or coowned by the same people?

2. The site says it is powered by Metaboli. I have been using Metaboli for my purchases with great results. What is the incentive of buying through The Adventure Shop instead of Metaboli? I have not always been fond of the activation procedure at Metaboli (GamersGate is much better, IMHO). Are they using the same activation then? Is The Adventure Shop simply a reseller of the games already available at Metaboli?

3. Can these games be burned on a CD for safekeeping and for future playing without the need to activate them online? My worry is that if Metaboli (or TAS) is no longer in service, none of the games will work. Other services, such as GOG, allows for this without need to "activate" each time.

Regardless, I may try out the service.

David,

1. The Adventure Shop and Adventure Gamers have the same relationship that we have with the Adventure Shop. They are not owned by them. GameBoomers does benefit when a purchase is made through our site and that is the same as Adventure Gamers does if ordered through their site.

2. I will let someone else answer that. I do not know.

3. This is covered under the Terms and Conditions Link I provided. "

Hi David,

1. As far as I know, The Adventure Shop is not owned by AG, they are affiliate partners.
2. I don't know how the system of download games franchises work but they are also through gamersplanet like other 'franchises.
If I can find more I'll let you know.
3. Yes, you can burn them to CDs. Check the Help link Ana posted. You'll know more.

Thank you for all the info Ana! My main bugbear with a lot of download games (unless they are very cheap) is not being able to back them up to disc to reinstall & play later without 'internet activation'. As long as I can do this I'm not too concerned with nice boxes etc! So if I pay for a downloaded game from The Adventure Shop, back it up to disc & uninstall my downloaded version I will later be able to reinstall from my back-up disc with no 'permission'? smile

BrownEyedTigre, I want to thank you for this kind introduction.

I also would like to say hello to all GB members, and introduce myself to the community.

I am Damon, and I am part of the team running the Adventure Shop.

I will be pleased to answer to any question posted on this thread, and to support GB members.

DavidT, let me answer to your questions:

1. The Adventure Shop is not owned by AG. Adventuregamers is an affiliate.

2. Metaboli is a service/technology provider. You should not consider the AdventureShop as a reseller of Metaboli, even if some titles are available on both platforms.
At the Adventure Shop we only want to offer to the community the largest choice of adventure games. Our release schedule is full of new releases, classic adventure games, independant games and older titles.
If you compare the adventure shop to other online shops, we do not concentrate on "big releases". We also want to offer to independant developers a platform and a shop to distribute their games to the community.
About the activation process, this decision belongs to the game developer/publisher, as they usually decide of the DRM which should be used with their games.

3. AdventureShop customers may, for each game, make copies on CD-Rom or another storage medium for personal archiving. Thanks to the online profile, at anytime customers can access purchased games, and download it again, and again.

Thanks

welcome Damon.

Thanks for answering the questions.

As Chrissie asked - can you uninstall and reinstall from the strage medium with no need of permission from your site?

Thanks for this thread! Well done Boomers. Quoting from the "How it Works" page:

You can install, uninstall and reinstall.
There is a maximum of 3 activations per game. If you need more activations, our technical support can reset the number of activations upon request by email. This limitation is merely to prevent evil users to share the download link on forums, or with too many friends ;-)

Thank you Damon, you've answered my question! On downloading a game & uninstalling, activation via the internet & therefore 'permission' is needed to reinstall the game. I appreciate the reasons for the limitation but I only buy games for my own personal use, I like to keep them & I want the option to reinstall my game anytime in the future without having to rely on the source site still being around & regardless of whether I have an internet connection or not anyway. I just won't support this arrangement unless the games are sold at a very low price! smile

I see prices in euro's. Does the site recognize where I am?
Do you see pounds in the UK and dollars in the USA?

For instance Dracula Origin is 39.99 euro's, that must be around $50, I think! Does it have that price in dollars too? Interact has it for $19.95, and that's without the limitations...

Handsfree, the game is 19.99 in the US on TAS. I see the site in Dollars. If it is less expensive for you to get the boxed then by all means order the retail version.

I see the site in dollars also. I wonder if the link adjusts according to the location of the person viewing it? Would that be possible?

It is possible in many ways. A couple ways is the IP adress or time zone your computer is set at. That is how TV sites in other countries block us from seeing their shows they see for free and we aren't supposed to.

Thanks, Damon, for answering my questions.

I am very pleased with the selection of titles your shop offers. It is also good to hear that we can burn the games to CDs to archive them.

It's possible to change from EU to US in the address bar smile
I have an account on both the EU and US site of Adventure Shop.

Ana That's where I was tring to download Darkness Within and I didn't have any luck. Of course they refunded my money, but I had to redo my whole computer because somehow it got messed up in the process.
I'm not saying it was there fought, but I have downloaded other games from other game sites and never had any problems. headscratch

Amlamb -- so sorry to hear you had a bad experience! I've downloaded from The Adventure Shop without any problems myself. It's really rare for a game to completely mess up a computer, though I know it does occasionally happen -- the only time I've known it to happen was with the disk version of Grim Fandango.

Misslilo -- isn't that confusing? Err, why do you have accounts for both? lol

Because for me the US dollar is cheaper than the Euro right now laugh

I made the EU account, before I knew I could change to US...

Gail, If you look under the Terms and Conditions link provided, it tells you that each one is different and you are responsible for checking the computer specs provided. They also give a number to call if you have questions regarding compatibility before purchasing.
