Hi everyone. I'm in chapter 3 most probably. I've completed the orc cemetery quest. I wanted to ask a few questions: After doing that quest, Cor Angar told me to gather some herbs for Ye Brien [sorry for the spelling]. Since it was dark, I went to sleep instead and left the job for the morning. When I took him the herbs he told me that Is this inevitable? or did this happen because I went to sleep Also, I want to become a ranger, but I wasted my skills on two handed weapon. I wanted to know when and where would I find someone who'd teach me about the crossbow and where would I get such a weapon. I have bolts though that I think might be for that cause. Also, I came across a lot of shadow beast skins in chests from gomez's castle Can I sell them or would they be helpfull in any quest. Finally, from whom can I buy more arrows?

Is there anything here on old thread or walkthrough that might help?

Sorry Hugh, but there are quite a few Gothic veterans, and hopefully they'll come along soon.

Hi Hugh. Oh, do you mean Yberion? Oh, yes, he is eventually supposed to die, but you see it happen in a cutscene. You know- when he contacts the Sleeper? I would have thought that only happens later than chapter 3 , so you have me slightly confused. I don't think it's because you slept that this happened, but maybe somewhow something went broken because you did quests in the wrong order? I remember doing the herb gathering quest as a fairly early quest, and that quest went ok for me. (Excepting the swampsharks which were a problem) Is this that early herb-gathering quest, or did you perhaps join the Swamp sect and this is an additional quest? What did happen to me, is that one of the Swamp sect guys was supposed to follow me, and he fell off one of those high bridges and died. I asked a q about that in a Gothic forum, and it wasn't supposed to happen that way. I think it's because this game is so open-ended and "realistic" that little accidents that aren't supposed to, can happen. Btw, I still did whatever I could at night, just with the gamma correction turned slightly up. I'ts not so dark that you cannot see. It's just that most of the NPC's become unavailable at night. As for bows and crossbows; I'll have to check my notes where you can buy a crossbow (A very useful weapon indeed!) Ranged skills and arrows I think I bought from Cavalorn the hunter,(in a hut) somewhere north of the old camp. On that same path is another hunter, an old camp man, (sitting next to a fireplace) that could also help you, I think, with training/arrows,although I think his training was more focussed on skinning animals. You might be able to trade skins with these two hunters, and also Wolf from the new camp. (Sorry, it's been a while!) You can also buy bow skills from Wolf at the new camp, and crossbow skills from Scorpio at the old camp. If you really have problems, I could search around for old gamesaves, and revisit some old G1 haunts again, but I'd have to reinstall the game again - I played it last a good year or two ago. Maybe Pokey or Hagatha or one of the other Gothic fans played it a bit more recently?

The order you do quests shouldn't matter and your sleeping doesn't hurt anything. Y'Berion is supposed to die, there's nothing you can do about it. Which camp have you joined? I usually join the Old Camp and spend my skills on strength and one-handed weapons. As for the shadow beast skins, you'll need one for a future quest and you can sell the rest. You should buy the skill curring up animals from Aidan because you'll need some horns, yeeth, etc, for a future quest. I think you'll be just fine. Barb

Thanks everyone. after that sleeper cutscene. I've played this game 2 or 3 times before but never got ahead after this cutscene. This time however I want to play it maybe completely. So after the great invocation scene and after I returned from the orc cemetery, cor Angar asked me to collect healing herbs which I had already done, thanks to the walkthrough from airyn. I think once this templer died too because sharks killed him. Cor Angar told me fortuno might have more. But it was too dark and I wanted to sleep, so I gave him the herbs next morning. I joined the old camp.

Hugh, I hope you're all right now? Are you just going to continue with the game now? You really should try and push through, you've come this far already; -even if you do make use of a walkthrough. I found Gothic 1 a satisfying game, and it made me feel much more at home in G2, and helped me understand the Gothic setting better. So, hang in there, and good luck!

Hello again. I've entered chapter 4: xardas. I need to find xardas for the main quest and Lester for Deigo's quest of some secret meeting after the banishment from the old camp . Is it necessary to meet milton for this quest? I already told Gorn about this though. Apart from 'the-spoiler' and airyn's walkthroughs. I came across this It seems a really nice walkthrough with table of contents. Anyway, this walkthrough mentions that lester is still there at the library where we found the focus. Can anyone remember where lester is and the route to xardas. There's also a walkthorugh on youtube but I don't know from where he starts to go to xardas. He DOES metnion old camp but not sure at what position.

Been a while since I played Gothic 1, but Xardas has his own tower. Lester is in another area altogether. Bear in mind that my poor old brain may be misfiring, but the locations should be as follows: Lester: Lester: On the path between the Old Camp and New Camp (but closer to the New Camp) there's a hill to the right leading upwards. There's a path at the top leading through the mountains, and a bridge. Go across the bridge, keep going up, and there's a large building where Lester should be. Xardas: Xardas: go northeast from the Old Camp (don't go east), and through the path between the rocks, then north to the bridge leading to the Orc camp. Near the bridge is a watchtower. Turn northwest around the tower, and go down a hill. There's a small lake there. Go up the slope on the other side and through a narrow path between rocks. You should be able to see Xardas' tower from the small lake.
Or you can go to the little bridge north of the Old Camp and instead of going across, go the other way, to the right, where a path leads between the mountains. Orcs abound here (or did, if you've already gone here). Once out of the narrow pass, go north and keep following the path to the slope beside the little lake I mentioned above. Again, you should be able to see the tower once you get to the lake.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Ah. My memory isn't too bad, then. My directions for finding Lester might not have been too good, though!

Anne, yes, thanks for posting that link - those maps are an absolute boon, aren't they? When I played G1, I had the first 2 maps off another site; but I really wish I had had the Temple of the Sleeper map, I got s-o-o lost in there! Sadly, at that time I still thought Gameboomers was a site for Adventure gamers only. Well, I'm glad I eventually found you helpful people here on the Darkside!

Thanks everyone. I had found the tower and Lester but thanks. I'll save this info for next time when I'll play the game and offcourse it would be usefull for others too. I'm to find some 'shaman/orc' that xardas has asked me to. I was havin trouble finding it but thanks a bunch for the link for maps. I know where to go now . I had forgotten about that nice site. Hagatha, that's the right path for Lester.

I can't use the 'shrink mosnter' on the troll. Last time when diego was with me it had worked somehow. Is there a specific way of key pressing for this?

Use it just like any scroll. Sometimes you have to hold down the key for a long time to make it work. You need to be very close to the troll& make sure his name appears on the screen. I've had problems with that one a few times, too. Just keep trying.

Thanks guys. I had tried both ways and always so closer that I could see the name but it never worked Is there any other troll? Would those other trolls reappear if I go there. There was one at a bridge where you meet lester for the focus and 3 where you go to meet xardas. Could they have that body part that that orcy wants for ulu-mulu?
