I have played Simon 1 to 3 but am reluctant to try the fourth one or even think about getting the fifth one. It seems to be almost blasphemy that Simon's accent has changed from a British one to an American one. I'm not being prejudiced, it's just that in a series you get used to the main character having the same voice. I would be interested to hear if anyone out there has played the first 3 Simons and would recommend the fourth.

Hi, Pamela I have played Simon 3D & Simon 4...I am not that picky when it comes to voice overs....My opinion is : If the game is good ..Who cares if its the same voice or another I play my games for pure enjoyment...I can't be bothered with anything else..

I have played every Simon and thoroughly enjoyed Simon IV - regardless of its "differences". It is not the same as the early Simons but, as I said in a previous thread on this subject, can we expect all to have remained the same after all these years and changes of "ownership" ?? Also, every series of games doesn't always stick to a particular format. The fabulous Gabriel Knight series, for example, was different with each indiviual game production. Can't wait for Simon 5, personally

Hi, Pamela
I have played Simon 3D & Simon 4...I am not that picky when it comes to voice overs....My opinion is : If the game is good ..Who cares if its the same voice or another :duh Well the voice acting is part of the appeal of the personality of the main character. I said previously on another thread that if there was a Broken Sword 5 and George Stobbart had a British accent and say Nico Collard had a German one, it just wouldn't be the same. Maybe I am getting old and just don't like change. I'm still toying with trying the game though. I saw a trailer for it and Simon just seemed too nice. Does he still have the same witty sarcasm of the old Simon? Is the humour as good as Simon 1 and 2?

I honestly did not enjoy this game, and I loved the previous games (except for Simon 3D). I thought the voice acting was terrible - not just Simon, but the other characters too - and the translation was just horrendous, IMO. I literally cringed during some of the conversations and ended up turning the volume off and reading the subtitles (which were bad enough). It was a shame, because the graphics were really lovely and the story and puzzles were good. That just couldn't make up for the dreadful script for me, though. It was a struggle to finish the game. I wish I'd saved my money.
I don't want to rant on about the standard of the translation on some of these recent foreign games too much, but standards really have dropped dramatically in recent years, IMO. I can't understand why it's seemingly so hard to find good English/American translators and actors. Surely English-speakers make up a large percentage of the adventure-game market? And some foreign games do get it right (So Blonde is a good example).

Magwitch -- So Blonde was written in English (the writer/designer is Steve Ince, who also was a writer/designer for most of the Broken Sword games) and then translated into German. I thought the Simon 4 translation was rather good. I wonder if the translator/writer was an American too. Ah! That's interesting. That'll explain why it was so good! As for Simon 4, well, these things are very subjective, of course. I'm extremely fussy about the quality of translations, probably much more so than most as I am an editor and writer by profession.

Darleen, you should get Simon 1 as well as 2 - they are too good to miss! Most likely you can buy them cheaply on eBay or Amazon.
