Gatorlaw, thanks for your response. That is good news for both Culpa 2 and Destinies, and a tease about other projects!
I can certainly understand the business side and how it impacts projects (my job at a high level is to test/break code).
I can add my voice to those others such as Marian who appreciate the efforts of the various teams, to take an idea, develop a story and produce good adventure games especially in today’s climate.

My pleasure Marian and RNL smile

Members here have always been some of the most articulate supporters of developers and our work.

And besides it is creatively considering well placed critiques that makes 2nd games stronger and better. Thanks!

Hi, I'm a moderator at the Culpa Innata forum. wave

Having just finished the uncut version, I can say that it is definitely worth playing, especially for the added nightmare scene. It adds another layer to Phoenix's character, what she may be thinking and feeling. There are just a couple of added scenes really, but it makes the game feel more complete for those who are interested.

Hey, Laura, I didn't know you were working on Destinies. That was a game I was really interested in. Good to hear that it is still being worked on. smile

I played Culpa Inaata when it first came out and it was pretty expensive then. It was a good game except that sometimes Wallis was completly uncontrollable bashing through walls, turning round and round like a top, going in her own direction instead of where instructed and so on.
it seems most unfair now to charge an additional 20 dollars to obtain the scenes which were cut out from the original for the companies reasons not us players.
In my opinion it should be issued as a free patch which will only fit on to the original for those who legitimately bought it; which should not be difficult.
To charge us another 20 dollars discourages folk from buying Culpa 2 when it is released.
Sorry to be so frank and blunt but again I think its unfair and will not be good for sales of the new game duh

harhan, Laura addressed this already:

A UK or English euro version (PEGI rated) was never released until now. Had we been successful in doing this before now - we "might" have been able to issue the subtitles as a patch. The "maybe" is because it was a substantial code change requiring additional Q & A.

The deleted scenes would have already been included as PEGI had no issues with these scenes for their 16+ rating.

We can not update the US code with deleted scenes as this would violate the ESRB rating and other agreements. We could have simply updated with the added subtitles only BUT we have had many more requests about the deleted material than about the lack of one liner subtitling. So the solution (only one) was to arrange distribution (finally) of the UK/PEGI rated code for Europe and as an import for everyone else.

Of course, people who have no interest in buying a new version for these updates, and enjoyed (or not) the original version in the US as it was - we certainly understand why they would not take a 2nd bite of game one.

I would add that it is not about extra revenue (wish it were) ... with the time spent updating, testing and figuring out how to get this to people we may break even on this version ... we hope anyways. This was for all the Culpa fans who wrote, posted around the web that they regretted not having this version. So ...

For those who wanted the full version with updates - now they can get it smile And this was the only way for those in North America...

Hey, Laura. smile Yes, I imagine having to take on all those roles at once must be very tiring. lol

Good luck with Destinies! I will definitely play it once it comes out.

Yes, it seems like a nice forum here. Very nice atmosphere.

I'm sorry to say but I agree with this. Although I'm not normally an avid AG'er, I bought Culpa because I liked the idea of the story when I saw it in a retail store. And I did enjoy the game very much, although the ending did feel somewhat incomplete to me. I paid the full price for it as well.

And while I do understand the additional cost for something like this, some devs will offer improvements in games free of charge. A good example of this would be the RPG, The Witcher, which gave owners of the original game a huge ammount of new dialog and even new content at no extra cost in a patch.

Yes and not only RPGs. Some adventure game devs have done so also at no extra cost let alone 19.99 dollars.

I think there is a misunderstanding at work here... so will try once more to explain smile

This is NOT an update per se. This is the release of the UK or euro english version of our game. Due to Adv Shop, people in North America can buy this as an import.

We can not issue the "deleted scenes" as an update to US code, Well we could and the ESRB would fine us and pull our games from sale as this would violate our rating.

Similar to Fahrenheit (euro version) vs Indigo Prophecy. There was game play and scenes deleted in the NA version to get a rating that would allow for retail sales.

If you want the game uncut you have to buy the UK version.

So same here, if people didn't buy the North American version as it was edited for the ESRB or/and did not have sub titles for ALL lines (dialogues and cut scenes were always sub titled, plus the diary that forms during the game has all critical facts, meetings and info in it)

Now they can get the UK version,

People who want the other version anways

Now they can get it

Eg I have both versions of Fahrenheit in my own collection

That's all. We do not anticipate huge sales in the US as that version was released. But wanted people to know about this new version release and what it had is all.

This is NOT an update we are asking people to spend money on, we can not update the US version for legal and contractual reasons. All euro versions of games differ from North American released versions if they have any contraversal content.

Hopefully that clarifies. I understand people wanting this as a free update, but that rests with the ESRB not us. If we could have we would have. Again this is not new added material, (so Witcher is entirely different situation) this is simply the 1st "EURO" version that is in English so it has the orginal code as we released every where else in the world. We had to revise the code and totally delete certain scenes to satisfy the ESRB and get our game released in North America.

Thanks smile

Ahhh

Hi Chrissie,

I see what you are asking. Well we are working on an actual retail release (in the box) in the UK and other English speaking euro territories.

For now we are just pleased to have the version available in any format. And Adv Shop has been very good at helping people etc.

So DL for now, hopefully in the box soon smile

yay Thank you gatorlaw! That's great news. I've already got & played the NA boxed version release of the game & it's one of my favourite games - I would have replayed it straight afterwards if I had more time & didn't have a stack of other newer games to catch up on!

I don't have any issue at all with the game (or any others) being released as a download first as I know how much this helps the developers. I know there are many gamers like myself that like to keep their games & therefore prefer a boxed version but a download version seems to suit the many gamers who like immediate access & are not so interested in keeping them. I don't mind waiting! smile

Hi greatsmitty,

That sounds like a hassle. frown Maybe we can get you a mail address that will work for you.

Let's hope so anyways smile

Chrissie - I definitely know what you mean, I love all my boxes! Back when I was reviewing games, even if I got a press copy - I always went and bought the game in the retail box. I actually FINALLY got them all alpha ordered recently, they look so sweet all nice and orderly. ... and I have over 700 of them (so far ) what can I say I am a mad gamer laugh

I think I may have contracted Mad Chicken Disease. crazy
I've even bought games I had already received for free because I had beta tested them (e.g. Rhiannon and Scratches). Not just because I like to have both the US and the European version in my collection, but also to support the developers. If Culpa Innata does get a boxed release in Europe I'll certainly buy a second copy. smile

well not so mad, perhaps just in the best way wink

I have friends who give me copies of their games (which to me is almost the worst!) I mean if your friends do not buy your games to support well shame on them. So I bought extras of those most definitely.

I think it is a true telling feature of your character that you have such integrity to support developers. I can't think of any who are rich from all this work. Well I suppose the good thing is we have work! But every support means the world. All my friends in this crazy biz think like that.

So Bravo you!! smile And thanks.
