Yoomurjak's Ring, a full motion video game set in Hungary -- created by the makers of the AGON series -- is now available for download at The Adventure Shop!

The game follows the exploits of Jonathan Hunt, the great-grandson of Samuel Hunt, the intrepid professor in the AGON games.

Some of you may recall that there was a serious debate here at GameBoomers as to whether the game ought to be released with the Hungarian voiceovers and English subtitles or whether it should be dubbed in English, with or without lip synching. We are now about to discover how the developers decided this controversial issue. laugh

To find out more about Yoomurjak's Ring, visit the game's website here. Or read the GameBoomers' First Look at Yoomurjak's Ring here.

To purchase the game, click on The Adventure Shop mini-banner near the top of this page, and type Yoomurjak into the search engine.

Betty Lou,

It might be the only way the game can be enjoyed by the gamers.
Some box publishers are not around anymore.

Chrissie -- I've written to the developers and will let you know.

I also found out that the voices in the game are in Hungarian and the subtitles in English. smile

Thank you Becky! As for the voices being in Hungarian with English subtitles - I don't mind that at all. If it keeps the development costs down for producing in different languages, avoids bad voice acting as a result, bad translations & the dodgy dubbing scenario I'm all for foreign language games being produced this way for the English speaking market. I hope it takes off so that we get more! smile

I don't like to read sub titles in english with a foreign language speaking. I would rather see bad voice dubbing then hear a foreign language I can't understand. Just my opinion, looks like a good game but I won't be buying it because of this.

After all these years and still no English language voiceover! When you consider that we are talking about the U.S., Canada, The U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and India, that is a lot of people. Not smart. I will pass.

Chrissie -- the game has been retranslated, so the demo that reflects this is not ready yet. Hopefully it will be on the game's website at some point in the near future.

I played the preview version with English subtitles and Hungarian voices and enjoyed it very much. It is my impression that it is especially difficult to dub a full-motion-video game because there are many close-ups on the faces when the actors are talking, so even if the voices are dubbed, the lip synch is always off. Then some gamers complain that they would rather have subtitles only because the dubbed lip synch issue is so annoying!

Short of refilming the game with English actors, it's very difficult to solve every problem. frown

Hi Becky, thanks I've been waiting for this one, but can you tell me what full motion video means? wave

I may not have gone where I intended to go,but I think I have ended up where I need to be.

Hi cailyn -- there's an explanation here on Wikipedia. Have you played the recent Casebook games, or the classic Tex Murphy games or Gabriel Knight 2?

Anyone know if the game has to be downloaded directly to the computer you're going to play it on? Or can you download the files to one computer, and then transfer them to another computer to install and play. (I know it has to be "activated" on the computer you're playing it on, but that's not what I'm asking.)

Is the computer you want to play on connected via network to your internet computer? I download everything off the net to a shared network drive so I can install and play on any computer in my house. I know that works for the Adventure Shop games.

I have been waiting anxiously for this one too. It would be interesting to experience a game reading subtitle while listening to Hungarian voices. I'll have to see how big the download is first, I'm still on dialup.

Is this a point and click game? I cannot play keyboard type games.

Hi dorish -- yes it's point-and-click with 360 degree panning.

I actually like the idea that the voices are in Hungarian; for me, it gives the game more "flavor," and adds a lot of authenticity to that feeling of actually being there. smile

Thanks for the info Becky. I don't mind any foreign language game, as long as there's also an English accompaniment so that I can understand the gist of the plot. I always have the option to turn off the sound or subtitles.

Thanks for the info Becky! I wouldn't otherwise bother with the demo if I could be sure it was playable on my system. I've always got a lot of games to catch up with so don't mind waiting & keep my fingers crossed that maybe news of a boxed version might turn up in the meantime. smile

Not usually, but that isn't the problem. There is no way I could download 4.8 GB of data without my ISP connection stalling out first. The most I've been able to download at once is around 300 MB, and that took two tries. Some days I've had downloads for casual games stall out at less than 100 MB. In order to get Yoomurjak's Ring, I'd have to use someone else's internet connection to download the installer file(s), then copy those file(s) to a DVDR or flash drive and transfer them to my computer. Is this possible? or does AdventureShop keep track of what ISP you bought and downloaded the game from, and only allow activations from that ISP?

Jenny,

Does the download manager they recommend not work for you?
I did stop mine (not this game) sometime ago and it continued where I stopped.
No - it does not keep track of ISPs.
