Hi all you wonderful people. I have a problem(s) with the game Pompei. I downloaded the game from GamersGate and it doesn't play all that well. The captions do not correspond with the audio, and the audio is always repeated twice. My main problem is to continue playing the game as a glitch has made it impossible to continue.

I am at the amphitheater near the end of day 3. Locusta the witch has got me to help rescue Fructus from the prison cell inside the amphitheater. I have to talk to the guard and I should be given 2 options (yes or no) when he asks me if I am a Gallic magus or magician. The dialog box only gives me one option, to answer "yes". If I click on yes, the game is over. The game will not give ne the "no" option in order to continue the game.

Can any person here please help with my dilemma, whether it be a save file at a time past this location, or some other suggestion in order to continue.

Hi Troglodyte,

I haven't played this game. I've searched around and looked at a few walkthroughs - there's a detailed one HERE that might help if you haven't already checked it out. Maybe if you go back to an earlier save at the beginning of Day 3 and play through by the walkthrough, that might get you unstuck.

Otherwise let's wait for someone who has played the game to drop by and help.

I found a walkthrough by Witchen=O which is very detailed and did everything step by step as shown and it still didn't help. It stated on the walkthrough that there are 2 options, yes or no, and have to select the no. The game does not show a no, only a yes.

Are you sure that is where you got it?

I am 100% positive I got it from there. It appears to be like all the old Cryo games, full of glitches. I loaded the game on 2 separate computers too, thinking my computer may have been at fault, but same result each time.

What operating system are you playing in? I had trouble as you described trying to play in xp. I was however, able to play it in my virtual pc 98. (Not sure if I'm saying that right - Windows XP system running a virtual 98 pc.)

Thanks for that oldbroad. I am playing in Windows XP Pro. I also tried it with XP Home Edition as well with the same result. When I contacted GamersGate, they acknowledged that they had problems with Vista, but said XP was fine. I don't think they want to admit their shortcomings. I should try playing it in VM mode and see if there is any improvement.
