Has anyone here downloaded/installed the new IE 8? I would like to hear what people think of it and if they have any problems.

Thank you.

Hi Linda,
I also have no issue with IE8, I use it everyday with Vista and Windows 7 and must say it has been very good....I have not tried it on XP.

I too have it - on XP Pro - SP3.
No problems so far - just annoying with the new search on page thing as a toolbar instead of the little popup.

Yes, Windows 7 is the latest OS. If you're interested in looking at it you can download it at the link below:

Windows 7 Release Candidate

From the paage:

Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you'll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You'll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use. (Learn more about installing Windows.)

I'm having terrible problems with IE 8. Can't print nor download from anywhere and don't have a internet tool bar. Have been trying to unstall it for a week. Got a disc from Microsoft to try installing IE8 from that. Still same problems. Have tried all sorts of suggestions to try to get rid of it, to no avail. Did research and I wasn't only one. Just hope that you won't have to go through what I'm going through. I can't even print and download from AOL. No Big Fish games nor print any documents. Just a mess. Mel22odie

Mel22odie,
It sounds like a good time to try Firefox.
I have no problem at Big Fish using Firefox.

Jenny1100, I was so frustrated that I did go and order Foxfire at the 3 year special price.( by the way they charged me the regular cost.) Then I found that I coulcn't download it. That has been my problem. Now I am trying to have them refund the payment. It wasn't cheap. This has been a very bad dream. Mel22odie

I don't know what you bought, but Firefox is a free download.

I'm sorry Jenny, thought that I had replied at once to your email about the free firefox. Must not have hit enter. As soon as I tried to download it (which was silly for can't download anything), it dawned on me that it should be free. Wrote to them but didn't hear. Too late to cancel at the bank for it was a weekend and it had already gone though. When I can finally download (and Print) I will download the free foxfire. Thanks again. Still have the problem that I can't even completely uninstall ie8. Got the disc and it had same problem. Couldn't find some of the files to copy. I've looked through all files and still can't find some so guess I'll have to take to the professionals. Thanks again, Mel22odie

Its Firefox, not Foxfire.
Getting the name confused may be why you downloaded the wrong thing.

Using Firefox won't help with uninstalling IE8, but it should help with your web browsing if IE8 isn't working.

Have you tried reinstalling IE8? Maybe it isn't working right because you have a bad install.

Jenny, do you think a scan with Malwarebytes might be a good idea here? If mel downloaded and paid for something that is spyware or has other malware, that could be contributing to her issues. I searched all over for "foxfire" and couldn't find anything. I couldn't even find anything "selling" the free Firefox.

Hi mel!

You may want to try using system restore, setting it to before you installed IE 8. Barring that, it sounds like you have a virus/malware problem. As Jenny100 stated, Firefox is free. Just my 2 cents, I would not use IE unless it was absolutely necessary.A short explanation. Virus/malware writers know that most people use IE for browsing, & they write the nasties knowing that. No browser is completely safe, but you could make yourself safer using Firefox, Seamonkey ( formerly Mozilla suite), Opera, or Kmeleon. Also, a good firewall, antivirus, & malware program, such as Malwarebytes, will help a good deal.Your surfing habits, whatever they may be, can also play a part in things. Also, with whatever browser you use, setting the browser to prompt for cookie acceptance should be a priority as well.

In IE:

1)tools
2)internet options
3)privacy
4)advanced
5)check "override auto cookie handling", then select "prompt" on 1st & 3rd party cookies.

How to perform a system restore:

1)start
2)programs
3)accessories
4)system tools
5)system restore

Once you get the system restore window, select "restore my computer to an earlier time" there should be a heading somwhere, indicating when IE 8 was installled. You may also want to try using a program called Revo Uninstaller. It can be found: Here

I wrote a long enail and accidently lost it. Thanks for all the great and helpfull e-mails. So since I received so many suggestions, this is what I have done so far.
1. Restored so many times that I ran out of restore points. I placed one and unfortunatley now that is the last one.
2. I paid Microsoft $5 for a disc that they sent me. Tried to install and ran and it ran into the same set of files that it couldn't find to copy and so the install failed as does the uninstall. I have looked individually for the different files and found them in many places but unfortunately some are still missing.
3. The Foxfire /or firefox that I paid $35.05 for 3 yr. membership, when I tried to download it I couldn't. Asked them to send me a disc and that if I didn't hear from them I would think it was a fake and willreport them (not sure to whom). The bill which I had received through the e-mail was made by MBdetails. Clicking on the site in letter brought you back to help. They do have a telephone number but am waiting to see if they email me anymore.
4. I am so sorry that I made that mistake and can only hope that I can repair computer.
Thanks again, Mel22odie PS. My AOL McAfee needed a new download from the internet and could not download that so that I am in need of a virus control. Have Ad-aware and hope to get a disc for their virus program for I like them. Thanks so much again, Mel22odie

Mel, I looked up MBdetails and I think you are out of luck. They are perpetrating this fraud for things like the free download of Spybot Search & Destroy, the free download of iTunes, the free AVG 8.5 and others in addition to the free download of Firefox.

Does anyone know of the best place for Mel to report this fraud? Not that it will do any good, but it should at least be reported.

You are so right. I later noticed all the so-called products. I thought then that I had been had. I never do things like that but when a letter suggested I do that. I immediately did it. I trusted the Board. It was completely my stupid mistake. As soon as I had a doubt I should have stopped and looked again. I sure learned a few things the hard way. Thanks for asking for a place to write to. I should tell Mcrosoft that because they didn't have an answer for my ie8 problem and if AOL hadn't told me (and after speaking to AOL service which they gave me long directions for removing McAfee with something that had to be downloaded from the internet rather than the usual AOL )I would not be in this pickle. But it really comes down to me for this mistake rather then anyone. Come to think of it I downloaded the ie8(for AOL)from AOL. Hmmm. Mel22odie

Mel, I did something similar recently concerning a free download. I didn't notice when I was taken to a different website where they were asking for $34.95 for a three year membership. I used Paypal to pay for it and the next day I realized the mistake I made. I replied to the email I received from this company and accused them of fraud and told them I wanted my money refunded. I received a reply within a couple of hours that my money was refunded. I also got a reply from Paypal that they were not processing my payment. I think I got very lucky. They explained that the three year membership was a service/support contract. I don't care how they justify it but in my opinion it is fraud.

Thank you very much, MaG. I will try that and another e-mail to the people whom I paid. Don't know if they are getting my e-mails for they keep asking me to correct address ( which is correct and the one that they used to send me the receipt for the download cost (which, again, I coudn't download).
Please, in case there is any misunderstanding about what I meant when I said that I trusted the board. I should have said that I trusted Jenny 100. She was absolutely correct. Please forgive me, if I didn't write this plainly. Shouldn't have added it to the rest of the list. It didn't belong there. I meant to say that I wanted to do as she suggested, It's just that I made the mistake of going after the wrong "foxfire". Thanks again everyone, and I will let you know how this mystery finally ends. (It has to, sometime.) Mel22odie

I'm very sorry that you made this mistake because I recommended Firefox over IE. When I want to find a Firefox download, I do a Google search for Firefox, and it always comes up with www.mozilla.com/firefox/ or mozilla.org which are valid sites. So I didn't supply a link to the download. I still don't understand how you managed to find this ripoff organization when looking for Firefox. Maybe it's because you use AOL as a search engine and they don't warn you about fraudulent websites.

Mel if you paid by credit card go to your cards website and disbute it. They will remove the charge from your account and force the company to prove it was legitimate. If a debit card most banks will help you get your money back. So will paypal if you used that.
