Hi Sandra,
Mr Egan should be at the Reception desk. Check the in-game clock - if it's night-time then Egan will have gone to bed and you'll have to wait until morning (or reset the clock) to see him again.

Which stairs? Can you give us a little more information of where you are and what you're trying to do - is this at the very end of the game when you are in pursuit of the baddie?

Sorry, the stairs leading down from the tower. Am I supposed to go somewhere else. There is design on floor but I can't so anything with it.
The stairs from the yellow room after you solve the gold leaf puzzle.

You should be able to leave immediately after taking the journal. Move your cursor slowly over the door/stair area, the arrow may be in a different part of the screen. Is it possible to approach the door from a different direction?

Are you able to get an arrow at left or right of your screen? Move your cursor slowly over the area. It's a spiral staircase as I recall, so that could be the reason.

I don't know what else to suggest. If you have taken the journal and checked any other active hotspots in the tower room then you should be able to leave via the stairs without any problems. There are some saved games HERE if you want to see if that will make a difference. #26 is just after the gold leaf puzzle, or you could try #27 to take you out of the tower completely and have the journal already translated. Alternatively, go back to an earlier save of your own and replay through and see if that solves the stair problem.
