I was reading somewhere that a few adventure games change the second time through. For instance: "red herring" items now become necessary, or the story line changes slightly or lengthens.

Any truth to this, and if so, which games have this option?

I wish for the life of me I can find that article. Don't you hate it when you swear you saw something but can't find it again?!?!

Hi xnickerxje and welcome to GameBoomers! welcome

I haven't read the article you mention. There are adventures where you can take different paths and those different choices change things. Shadow of Destiny springs to mind, as does Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I don't remember a game in which an inventory item that was unuseable when you first play becomes necessary on a second playthrough, though.

In Ripper there are different paths to 4 different endings.
The game randomly decides what scenario you're in, so a second time is likely to be different. I don't know if it affects the use of inventory items.

Cleopatra: A Queen's Destiny has a system where some of the puzzles are more complex, depending upon which astrological sign you pick when you first start to play. So a replay will find some puzzles easier and others more complicated than the first time through.

Cool- thanks for the games that do allow a "second time through". It is almost time for me to get my next game, so I will put those on my list. I love trying to get all the combos on different endings.

Like I said, it was an article online (could have been a review) and the author said that some items were usable only the second time through. But then it was a few weeks ago and I read it at something ridiculous like 2:30 in the morning so more than likely I am just nuts and the article doesn't exist. crazy

Oh and thanks for the welcome. I have been reading posts on and off for a few months and thought I might as well join. I love the reviews here!
