No one knows at this current time about a disk version. I suspect a lot depends on how many people download it. That will also determine if more of the LucasArts classic catalog will get the "special edition" treatment.
Edit: zak, I'm adding to the thread title so I can sticky it!

Other than grapics, music, sound and voice is the game itself and puzzles going to be the same as the original so that we can use the old walkthroughs if necessary?

Barry

Thanks, Becky In that case, do you know if "Steam" allows the copying of the game files to a disk by the customer ?? [I did visit the site but couldn't find that information.] I just haven't got room to store downloaded games

I wish game developers would realize that not everyone has a state of the art computers with all the bells and whistles and can afford to do so. My computer has a 1.8 processor which has been able to play all the new recent games with no problem. How does a 2d cartoon graphics game come off needing a 3 gig processor to play it? Guess as muchas I liked the MI games I'll have to skip this one. Was looking forward to it also.
Regards,
Barry

Of course it doesn't need 3ghz processor. You will play it fine. I have not seen the specs for the game but come on a adventure game, a remake, will never need a 3ghz processor.
Believe me you will be fine.

That's what the specs say as minimum requirements Skeeter. Click on thelink for the Steam download on page 1 of this post and you'll see the specs.

I've downloaded the game and have been playing for an hour and a half. These are my computer's specs:
Windows XP Professional Pentium 2.80 GHz 2.00 GB RAM Direct X 9.0c 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX SB X-Fi Audio
I'm having no problems at all, though my (once state-of-the-art) video card may be compensating for my processor speed.
I'm having a great time switching back and forth between the classic game and the new version.
I haven't, in the past, been a big proponent of redoing games to optimize the graphics, but the new graphics and the voiceovers make a tremendous difference in this game.
Here are the official system requirements:
System Requirements OS: Windows XP® or Windows Vista® Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Memory: 256 MB RAM, 512 MB for Vista Graphics: 128 MB with Shader Model 2.0 capability DirectX®: 9.0c (March 2009) Hard Drive: 2.5GB free hard drive space Sound: DirectX® 9.0c compliant sound card
Optional -- Controller support: Xbox 360 controller
Alcohol and Tobacco Reference Comic Mischief Mild Cartoon Violence Suggestive Themes

Bermag -- You use the mouse to guide Guybrush/walk around and to click on hotspots and talk with the characters. Though I've been using the keyboard for other stuff -- for instance, "I" to bring up the inventory and "V" to bring up the Verb command interface (Open, Use, Pick Up, etc.). Oh, and "H" for Hints (yes, they put in a Hint system too). Fov -- I would think it would work with a gamepad, though I don't have one to test it with.

Just downloaded game and for some reason until somebody asked about backing up games and a reply from skeeterUK saying you can, I never realized noticed under the " File" option., There is a " Backup" option for all the games that you have installed ...
Take Care All
