Activision will be releasing a Massive Multiplayer Online game set in the Zork universe. It's unclear at this point whether the gameplay will be more puzzle-based or more action or strategy-based, but it's probably worth checking it out just for the sake of Zork Nostalgia.

Well, I've always heard about Zork but never played it. I might have to check this out. Do we have a time frame or a price structure?

According to the link Becky gave, this is an MMO, but not a RPG and it sounds like it is a very casual one.

Quote:
LegendsofZork.com will provide online gamers with a persistent online adventure, playable from any Internet browser. Players take up the role of a recently laid-off salesman and part-time loot-gatherer, as he explores the Great Underground Empire. Designed to provide gamers with a casual MMO game they can play on their laptop, desktop or Apple iPhone (in school, work or on the bus), there’s nothing to download, just go to www.legendsofzork.com

Thanks Ana for your link--I have a clearer picture now puppy

I don't think so Becky....it may be better received here and if it comes out being a full casual game when released, we can always move it. We can hang on to the illusion a little while longer. lol

If I recall correctly, Zork Grand Inquisitor then Zork Nemesis were two of the best games of that era. I shall certainly look forward to giving this latest game a whirl thumbsup wave

oh...loved Zork Nemesis and Grand Inquisitor!! It would sure be nice if the online game was very similar to those (but if action parts....please, please give us more than enough time!!!)..hope they don't add jumping, arcade junk to it.

Glad to see Zork has a future as Zork Grand Inquisitor is one of my favourite games. I'll be waiting with the rest of you to see what this will be like - given it's going to run on an iPhone it's not going to be like World of Warcraft at least.

I have Return to Zork and Zork Nemesis. I have never played them and I bought them used. I think I had computer spec problems.
Are these games fun to play and will they play in Dosbox?

They're both very good games. Return to Zork runs great in DOSBox; Zork Nemesis also runs in DOSBox, although the Windows version is supposed to be "enhanced" in some ways compared to the DOS version (my CD of Zork Nemesis has both a DOS and a Windows version). Zork Nemesis runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME; it may run on Windows XP, too, although I have never tried it. The problem with running it on newer faster processors is that it pans way too quickly, so you would probably need some kind of slowdown program. Return to Zork has a lot of humor, whereas Zork Nemesis is darker and more serious. smile

Thank you Marian for the info on both games. I still have my old 98 computer so I'll use it for Zork Nemesis.

Zork- Grand Inquisitor is a very good game in the series also..It has some good humor as well as the serious. Great puzzles and wonderful graphics. I played it on my Win98. I think it was the last game in the series. I enjoyed it a lot. Zork Nemesis was the first in the series i played and i really enjoyed it a lot (there was 1 puzzle that i think was timed i had a problem with i think..). One of my friends and i would get together on weekends and play it..such fun!..it had great puzzles!

Legends of Zork

Has anyone seen this yet?

I thought I'd share it even though many gamers, and especially Zork fans, may not like it.

Zork was recently developed into a web-based RPG. On one hand, I think it is nice to see Zork revitalized after so long and in such a professional way but I'm not an RPG fan. I'd much rather see a traditional point and click adventure games like ZGI and ZN. I even read that a company called Nowhere Software is remaking the original trilogy into RPG games. I'm not excited about that either.
