A deadly new school year for NancyDrew as Her Interactive announces Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy. 21st Installment of Award-Winning PC Game Series to Hit This October For Screenshots Click Here. Bellevue, WA, July 29, 2009 – Vanishing valedictorians? Scared salutatorians? What’s a school to do? In the 21st installment of the award-winning Nancy Drew PC adventure game series, the school in question calls on the super-sleuth herself, Nancy Drew, the star of Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy, the newly announced game from Her Interactive, the designer, developer, and publisher of the best-selling adventure series.
Inspiring today’s tech-savvy generation of future leaders much like its literary counterpart has for more than 80 years, the latest case features Nancy as an undercover student at the prestigious Waverly Academy as she attempts to thwart a vicious chain of events directed at the school’s most promising students.
“As empowering as our games are for female players, at the end of the day they still must be as challenging and fun as their competitors, and with Warnings at Waverly Academy we have all the compelling ingredients needed for a hit,” said Megan Gaiser, president and CEO of Her Interactive. “Our games are really mystery-adventures wrapped in layers of increasingly complex puzzles that require deductive reasoning to not only get through, but to ultimately determine the culprit, and that sense of accomplishment is what keeps our community so committed to the franchise.”
The community continues to grow for the Nancy Drew PC game series as evidenced by the July release of Nancy Drew®: Ransom of the Seven Ships which has proven to be the most successful launch in the series to date.
In Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy, players take on the role of Nancy Drew as she heads undercover at a prestigious all-girls boarding school to discover the culprit behind threatening notes and dangerous accidents that seem to be targeted towards the academy’s valedictorian candidates.
To fit in at the school, players will immerse themselves in the boarding school culture by exploring the campus, helping other girls with projects and navigating the social scene. To build the case, players will surreptitiously snoop through dorm rooms and snap cell phone pictures of evidence they come across. A handy, adjustable skill feature lets players choose to play as a Junior or Senior Detective depending on their mystery-solving abilities. Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy will be available this October for purchase at retail and from the Her Interactive website for a suggested retail price of $19.99. More information about Her Interactive and the company’s entire line of exciting Nancy Drew games, including the new casual series Nancy Drew Dossier™, can be found online at www.HerInteractive.com. Hmm, is this set in the same fantasy world setting as The Wizards of Waverly Place or did they just use the name Waverly to try and sucker in people by name recognition?

The game is based on the book: "Nancy Drew: The Curse of the Black Cat" that takes place at Waverly Academy. You can see the description of the book here.

Im not sure I want to play ND games anymore. Most of the other of her games prior to Seven Ships was interesting and fun. Seven Ships however breaks that tradition. There are really only 3 characters active in the game. Nancy, George and a beach bum. There are a lot of references to prior games within scenes and some dialogue. We have here a series of monkey games which Nancy and George have to continue to play. Totally boring btw. The puzzles are overly obscure with hidden "letter" references and some timed so critically that it requires some tricks to perform. I wont spoil it by saying who turns out to be the culprit but it becomes fairly obvious and then when the identity of the culprit is revealed, I groaned audibly. Seems ND has some new writers who have deviated from the tried and true formats which have made ND games so popular. I hope Herinteractive gets a CLUE!

Waverly is a name that goes way back as you can see Here. I'd have to say it's likely coincidental. Ana

While Ransom of the Seven Ships was a good game, it was far from being one of my favorites. But I will try Waverly Academy and hope for the best---because one of the interesting things about the ND series of games is that there are several different design teams who work on them, and it's highly doubtful that it will be the same design team who did Ransom. Thus, I will definitely give Waverly Academy a chance. I'm going to give it a try too (if only because hope springs eternal and I think a boarding school is a great setting for a ND game!), but I couldn't help but wonder if they announced Waverly Academy so quickly after the Ransom release as a distraction from the fact that Ransom is--IMO, anyway--a major dud. At least it seems like this announcement came out earlier than the autumn ones usually do--could just be me, though. Kristi

KristiC, because some of us does not like the changes in Nancy Drew does not make them a flop. Did you read this paragraph in the announcement? The community continues to grow for the Nancy Drew PC game series as evidenced by the July release of Nancy Drew®: Ransom of the Seven Ships which has proven to be the most successful launch in the series to date.
Also, last July 30th the announcement was made for the October release of the new Nancy. They are right on schedule. Nancy Drew is still quite a successful series and in their forums the folks are loving it. Ana

Reading the reviews for Random has made me hesitant to purchase the game I love the ND series and have been a bit disappointed myself in the last few games. Must admit that I enjoyed Phantom although I BELIEVE that there was a nasty timed sequence in that one as well? Not quite sure... but I do remember that when I finshed it I actually said to myself "Finally an ND game that plays ALMOST like the older games" It actually reminded me of the Message/Mansion not as spooky.
Dear forest animals, I've been singing for over an hour, where are you? Sincerely, Too lazy to clean the house

Me too blsbet! I do love having the whole collection on my shelf, but I decided to go the $6.99 route and download from BigFish. If I end up really liking it, I'll get the hard copy for my collection later. Ana

Wow. That is a lot of games. They must be good if they are turning out twenty of them. Rushes.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.
