Well, Syberia 2 was a good game, but certainly not as good as the first. That's generally the way it goes with sequels.
I do think it faithfully fulfilled the concept of the first, but because of the great piece of work the first one was it just couldn't completely fill it's shoes.
And of course the artwork was great as is expected from Benoit Sokal.

I agree with you musicgirl. I always list the first game on my recommendation list every year but even though the second game was just as beautiful graphically it just didn't hold my interest like the first Syberia game did.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Wow, I must be the only one who actually prefers part two. It's only a slight preference as I love them both, but I really enjoyed Kate's adventures in the second game. I especially liked traveling with the Youki and walking around that huge ice cavern with all of the Youkals. Also Kate showed a lot of bravery the more she grew as a character. Granted, the villains were a little arch, but they were a minor part of the game for me. Ultimately, however, I really see the two games as one long story as part two picked up right where the first left off. Like Darleen03, I would also like to see a part three, but I'm not sure if Benoit Sokal is involved in the one that is supposedly being worked on. That will really be a deciding factor in how interested I am.

Venus I have had other people tell me the same thing. They thought of Syberia 2 as a continuation of the first game. When I played the first Syberia it reminded me of my favorite games GK2 and The Longest Journey. I might not of enjoyed the second game as much just because the first game was so good. I don't mean to give the impression that it wasn't a good game I just really loved the first game and my introduction into Sokal's world.

I played both, I enjoyed both and Syberia I is one of my favorites. I almost cried of emotion at the ending, even if it sounds silly, I was so happy for her . In Syberia II I had a different perception of Hans, he appeared to me as very selfish, almost a Machiavellian planner, caring only for his goal. This is the only thing I disliked of this game.

I always liked both the Syberia games, but felt that the different reactions to Syberia II were based on a player's reactions to Oscar. If Oscar became a heart-tugging character, then then Hans had to be that "Machiavellian planner." If Oscar remained just a machanical functionary (With a really irritating voice!), then Hans was just a clever old guy whose plans had all worked brilliantly.
I still want to know how Kate got home and if there are there really hostile and/or dangerous penguins up there.
If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

To me it was not Oscar, I understood he was a robot even when had "touches" of feelings. Hans certainly was a clever old guy but what I didn't like was the way he used Kate. At the end "I" somehow regretted helping him, felt he used "me". I normally get emotionally involved with game characters, even in action games.

Hans certainly was a clever old guy but what I didn't like was the way he used Kate. He was brain damaged, emotionally and socially stunted since his accident as a kid. It never would have occurred to him that he was "using" anybody and he didn't force Kate to help. It was she who decided she wanted to help this feeble old man achieve his lifelong dream. Maternal instinct or something close to it.

Space Quest Fan, I actually understand why many prefer the first game. There were more characters to interact with and more of a variety of locations. Normally, I prefer something like this, but there was just something about the second game I liked even more. But I agree that the first game was excellent. As I said, it is only a slight preference. Blsbet44, I'm glad I'm not alone in my love of part two. The Haze, that's interesting, I never thought of it that way. I loved Oscar as a character, however, and I didn't see Hans really as intelligent enough to be a "Machiavellian planner." True, he was a genius when it came to automatons, but in every other sense, he was very much a child. Maybe I am giving him too much credit, but I don't see him as being purposely selfish. Ah, I missed the fact that there was a second page here. Jenny100, I completely agree with everything you said, and I too saw Kate as being very maternal towards Hans.

I very much enjoyed these two games equally, and would really look forward to a third.

See, I enjoyed Sinking Island too, although not as much as the Syberias. And I really loved Paradise once I downloaded the patch and everything worked the way it was supposed to. The only part that I really didn't enjoy and wished I could have bypassed was the swinging cage sequence. I am also interested in hearing more about Syberia 3, but I am hoping it follows the style of the first two and doesn't become something unrecognizable.

I am in general agreement here with Syberia II, and will even go further to say that the ending was so disappointing that it took them out of top twenty games altogether. For me, it was the lack of good storytelling at the end. For me, Kate Walker is the main character and not Hans and at the end of the game we do not get to find out anything about her. Does she go back? How does she handle her mother? Her fiance? Her job? etc, etc, etc. Unfortunately I feel Sokal does this with many games (Amerzone is another example). We have this big rush of beautiful video and graphics, and then nothing as if this alone is supposed to be the reward for going through the story.
I can understand, however, why it is a favorite of many. Everything else was quite wonderful for a game. I just wished more game writers were willing to give us a complex story and work with it while we played.
