I really loved this game, My only wish, is that I played it before 2 and 3 as I knew some of the story from this, but still, It stands the test of time, and is well worth the play for anyone who has not played it yet. At first, I was a bit put off by the graphics, it is alot older, but the story soon, got me so involed that it was well worth it. I also enjoyed seeing the the back drop for the other two. I am just sad there isnt another game in the series... I think my favorite was number 2, Love the FMV, but really liked 3 too once I got into it.. Anyway, just encouraging anyone who hasnt played, to give it a go, I used the installer recommended and didnt have any trouble playing it in XP...

HeavenlyJoy I loved the Gabriel Knight games. The first one got me hooked. I still think the second game "The Beast Within" is the best adventure game ever and number three was also excellent but I must confess it was very hard for me. The computer part I had trouble with and I found the graphics to be very blocky but the plot was awesome. I loved how in GK2 you got to play as Gabriel in one chapter and Grace in the next. I think it was the first game where I actually cared about the characters as if they were real people. I also thought the map that flashed if you still had things to acomplish in a certain area was a great feature.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Glad you enjoyed GK 1, HeavenlyJoy. Like you and Space Quest Fan, I enjoyed the second in the series the most. Part three was my second favorite, and the first was my "least favorite," though I use that term very loosely. I consider the Gabriel Knights to be among the best games of all time, and I know exactly what you mean about being depressed that it is now over. You can always replay the games from the beginning so you can experience the full story in the correct order.

Hey, I too love GK2 the most of the three. And both GK1 and GK2 are among my top adventure games of all time. Beast Within felt so real to me, I didn't even notice that the actors were inserted into static backgrounds when I played it for the first time. I wish there were more quality FMV games around.

LOL, Venas, I was just thinking, WHY did I sell it, I am the type of person, who never replays games, but gk 2 will be the exception, I am thinking of buying it again Space Quest fan I also loved playing as both people, and really loved them both, found myself rooting for them, the Love connection, (I am a romatic) I think I liked playing best as Grace, cause I love doing research, and the puzzles... it was so funny when she first turned up at the castle and really was rude to Gerta, then come to find out she was not interested in Gabe then she felt so bad, so true to life LOL Yeh, I was just thinking, from reading the other thread about the interview, WISH i didnt sell it... but I have a stack of games to play, and can always buy it again, (and probably will) Mad, me too it is my number one fav too Because of these games, I went to the trade forum, and found a few other oldies but goodies, you know look at games, then look at the reviews... I love good puzzles,... venus, I know what you mean, saying it was my least fav, still is better than many other games I have played recently... Marcia

I too enjoyed GK1, but had a awful time getting away from the zombies, I kept on trying until I got past that point and like you I hated to see it end. I enjoyed GK2 but not so much with GK3, it's still at the back of my shelf labeled " will play later" .

HeavenlyJoy, you may be able to find them for a good price at Amazon. I think it is cheaper to buy the first two games separately rather than the mystery pack with the first two games packaged together. Things could have changed now, though. I agree that these are some of the greatest games of all time. I can't wait for Gray Matter to come out. Sorry you couldn't get into GK 3, lexxy. I think it has a fantastic, detailed story, just like the first two, and I loved the Le Serpent Rouge puzzle. Was it the controls that put you off? I know they had a bit of a learning curve for me.

Hey hey hey! I, too, absolutely love the whole GK series. In fact, GK 3 was one of the first games I ever played. And I'm talking about way back when Sierra still had a hint line. And... I must admit I used it!
The only problem was all the Lara Croft type jumping and running around at the end.
Kind of a let down after so much adventure fun.
Don't get me wrong. I'd do it again in a second.
In fact I've been thinking of playing my treasured set of all three again soon.
I just have a little question about running GK1 on XP.
Did you just load it up like any other game and it just played?
Did you have to tweak anything?
Just a matter of curiousity because I am currently in the middle of another classic: Tex Murphy, Under a Killing Moon (playing in DOSBox).
In anycase, party on one and all!

I'm pretty sure the first game will be happy with good old DOSBox; and the other two would be happy with a home on good old virtualPC with W98. I am ;ucky because I had my computer custom built and therefore had to shell out the bucks for W98. (Then again, am I lucky to have had to buy what all computers at the time came with pre-installed? -- no matter -- t'was another age back then, long long ago... perhaps even on a planet far far away.)
Anyhow, perhaps a simple XP compatiblity mode tweak will do the job.
But, as everyone knows, if you ever have a problem with a game... it's time to call...
GLITCH BUSTERS!!!

I guess when you're an adventure gamer long enough your nose grows.
And, somewhere, there's always a nose who knows.

Venus, You are 100% correct concerning the controls. I will go back and try it again when I can concentrate and not get too frustrated.

There are members who frequent the "Glitches, Bugs and Patches" Board who could direct you to sites where there are simple free installers which make GK1 and Gk2 playable in XP WHOOOOO HOOOO!!! I know about the special installs for The Longest Journey and Phantasmagoria 2 but I didn't know about any for GK! OOOOH! A happy day in Raj-ville! Thanks!

From your Start Menu if you click on Programs and next Accessories, you should then see a "Program Compatibility Wizard" amongst the options. In a lot of cases, the Program Compatibility Wizard allows you to play a Win98 game on your XP machine. Just take a peek. [ I can understand it so it's definitely pretty simple ]

Lexxy, I figured it was the controls. I don't blame you, as it took me a while to get used to them as well. I think the easiest thing to do is to click/hold and drag the camera around to where you want Gabriel or Grace to go, and then just click on that spot. Don't know if I explained that very well, but this is what worked for me. Everything become a lot more intuitive after I figured out that trick.
