I have played some mighty creepy games, and some really scarry ones.. but "Sanitarium" is a whole different ballgame isn't it? Nosy enough that once started I'm too curious not to see it thru to the end, but geeze... Call me a wuss, but certain parts of this one really creeps me out. I'm in the pit right now, and well... I was squeamish with the pumpkin patch, but seeing that little girl floating face down really gets to ya. can't wait ta get past this spot. But then, I don't watch scarry movies either.

I haven't played this game yet, though I've been told that I ought to! I'm curious to know how you feel about it when you're done. (I don't watch horror movies either.) Well, Becky, I'm not normally a person who re-plays an adventure game anyway, but I can tell you for a fact this one will be on my Trade lits a soon as I finish it. So in case you decide to have a go at it......... It really is interesting, and certainly not boring.

It's dark, that's for sure. I remember in one area there is this huge clown head with long teeth. I freakin' hate clowns. I'm thankful I didn't play it as a kid. That clown would have given me nightmares for days.

This game was one of the Best games I ever played... The <Icky> <Creepy><Slimy> Game, I Loved I totally enjoyed it : Clowns & All The kids in the game reminded me of the <Garbage Pail Kids> They were trading cards someone came out with after the Cabbage patch dolls came out..

AnnG; If you hate clowns that much, you should never watch the movie Stephen King's "IT." It will really freak you out. LOL.

I find it rather strange that there are so many strong reactions to this game. It did have me feeling a bit strange and off-kilter, and I think the worst part for me was in the doctor's experiment room, though I also hated the hive. Yet I wouldn't say that I either hated or loved the game. I doubt that I would replay it, but I also doubt that I would easily forget it. It's... different.

I can't say that I enjoyed Sanitarium too much, but it was definitely gross. The worst part for me were the children interbred with insects.

I think that was the "Best" part.... This game to me is a Real Classic...I wish there was a sequal to it... But...I think that will never happen...Once in a life time a really good game comes along... Maybe some of the newer developers will take notes on this "GREAT" game.

This is one of truest form of horror entertainment for the PC. Everything about it was great, even though a couple of chapters weren't as "horror" based as the rest. So dark, creepy, and in some ways disturbing. One of the few adventure games I would rate over an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Just too much good creepy fun. The part that creeped me out the most was when you cam across the children in the circle and they were singing that creepy lil pumpkin patch song.

I loved this game. It was different and creepy but it was also humorous in my opinion. I'd love to see more games like this! I'm not remembering the humorous parts.

A BIG warning here, the original disks for the game have had instances of exploding and totally destroying the drives. I'm not sure how to tell really but I imagine if you bought it recently you should be safe (other than maybe a used one on Ebay). More on this can be found in Inferno's game compatibility site.

The disks are thin and the drives spin faster now then was intended for them so they will "explode". There are numerous threads in Glitches on it. Ana

There were some humorous touches in the game, such as the inscriptions on the tombstones outside the morgue and the red herring in the Indian village. Whether intended or not, the voices and comments of both Grimwall (is that the name?) and Olmec could be hilarious at times: "It's the insectoids' abominable furnace" and "By the gods", respectively, are remarks that still make me laugh.
As for the tombstones, I think the programmers were sending up the project manager and others in the studio.

I too recall a darkly humorous bent to the writing, particularly when talking to the children, or to the various patients in the sanitarium, from the very first screen - "Now there's something you don't see every day." I hesitate to call this a plain horror game, though; it's more darkly surreal, creepily bizarre, than truly frightening, personally. Yes, some of the imagery is downright disturbing, but the story (which I loved) is more sci-fi/dark fantasy to me (especially, as Drache pointed out, the latter levels). With the pumpkin patch, that's actually about the only sequence that doesn't want to play right on my Vista machine! For some strange reason Max vanishes and reappears randomly as he moves about. The rest of the game seemed to play like a charm, though.
