Guess not. I "think" it worked before, but I simply can't remember, lol. Some day when I get the time and energi, I'll look into it again. So far win7 runs smoothly - I just hate having to install everything all over again I can dualboot with my XP, but I thought I'll play with this version a little and see if everything works as it should.

Have fun, misslilo!
I got my hot little hands on my copy Wednesday, but I still haven't decided exactly how I'm going to do this. Let us know how it goes!
Richard, you can double click on the C: drive just like you've done before. "Start, "Computer," and then double click on C:

So far it all seems nice, I only have one problem. It seems I'm not allowed to access files on my XP drive. (I can dualboot between XP and win7) Keeps telling me I need admin rights, which I have! Does anyone know what to do about it?

on win 7 is there a way to look at the c drive where all the files are stored? My wife just bought a new pc with win 7 on it. I clicked on windows explorer and it didn't help at all. Thanks Richard When in Windows Explorer, on the left hand side, under where all the libraries are, it says "computer". Click on it and you should be able to see it.

Hmmm... don't know what is going on there, misslilo. I can look at and use all the files between my three drives and I didn't do anything except set my UAC options to the lowest setting possible. Have you gone in there and lowered the settings?

Do hope no-one has the same problem with installing Windows 7 that I have. I have/had Vista, and a third of the way through upgrading to Win 7, the computer decided to freeze. Left it for over an hour with no joy. Found my finger creeping towards the off button, knowing full well the consequences....yes, you've got it. "there is no operating system installed" Tried to re-install Vista but got a message about windows not being able 'to find the system volume with the criteria for installation'. I now know that Vista is problematic for re-installing and needs two partitions 'C' for the boot stuff and 'D' for the rest of it on the hard drive. Blah, blah, blah, as I am unsure about all this have asked my local friendly computer repair shop to help. Watch this space.... PS. I have dusted off my old, reliable XP for now.

I now know that Vista is problematic for re-installing and needs two partitions 'C' for the boot stuff and 'D' for the rest of it on the hard drive. Blah, blah,blah... I don't think so -- not with a regular Vista install on a homebuilt computer anyway. But there may be certain partition arrangements on name brand computers where this is the case. Brand name computers can have some weird partitioning -- as many as 4 partitions with only one operating system. For example, a Dell laptop might have a diagnostics (utility) partition, the normal C: partition, a restore partition, and the "Media Direct" partition. http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/mediadirect.htmOther brand name computers that have a "restore partition" may have a similar complex structure. Installing a new OS is much easier on a home built computer where the only partitions are the ones you put there (and know about). As for your computer freezing during the Windows 7 install, is it possible that you need to feed it AHCI drivers (or Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers) near the beginning of the install? From ***here***Depending on the chipset that your motherboard uses, you may need to add the Win 7 drivers for it during the install. (especially nForce) (Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers, iaAHCI or iaSTOR).

Yes, I even disabled UAC and fittled a bit with the security policies, but no go. It says I need admin rights - although I have.
I'm trying copy some files from: D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Grey Alien Games - but it has this lock image on the folder. Whats that about?
EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out - sort of, lol I had to take ownership of the folders, before I could do anything

Thanks for the links, Jenny. Looks as if I'm not the only one with problems. My computer was built by a retailer and did not include installation software (except for the motherboard, graphics and monitor). But they did say that a factory copy of Vista was on a 'hidden' partition. All too complex for my blonde brain. When I ran Windows Advisor prior to installing it stated I will need to update the Motherboard drivers after installing Win 7. Here's hoping my computer tech guy will be successful.

It shouldn't, Collector. I've been accessing, using, dragging etc. files between two different hard drives with XP Home and XP Pro on them and my Windows 7 drive for 5 months with no problems at all.
I hope your tech guy gets it up and running for you, upsydaisy!

When I ran Windows Advisor prior to installing it stated I will need to update the Motherboard drivers after installing Win 7. AHCI drivers, Intel Matrix Storage drivers, etc. aren't quite the same thing as motherboard drivers that you install after Windows is installed. As I understand it, one of the things these drivers control is how the motherboard accesses SATA drives (and these days most computers are using SATA hard drives). Unless you have these drivers during the install (either on your Windows disc or loaded into RAM), there will be problems during the install because the computer won't be able to read and write to the hard drive properly. If you are interested in trying to install again, you'll need to find the drivers to load during the install (which aren't the regular motherboard drivers). If your computer is a brand name, you can look for them on the brand name website going by the model number of your computer. Or if your computer is custom made, you'd look for them on the website of your motherboard, going by the model number of your motherboard. Remember they aren't the regular motherboard drivers though.

I forgot about the fact Windows 7 hides drive letters by default. They are trying to confuse people less by simplifying things, but I guess it might have the opposite effect for some people. So basically look where I said, but it just says "local disk" now. To turn drive letters on: At the top, select "organize" and then "folder and search options" Then switch to the "view" tab. Scroll down and check the box next to "Show drive letters".

Hmmm... mine has always listed the drive letters and I've never made that change, Templeton. Wonder if it's just the RC or if the full version will be that way too.
I'm clicking on the folder icon just to the right of the IE icon in the taskbar.

I'm glad you posted that though, because when I do my install of the retail Windows 7 and I don't see any drive letters, I will know what to do!
