Here's a complete savegames folder for The 7th Guest: EDITED OUT.
Not tested, but if Mag's solution doesn't work out it might be worth a try Make a backup of your own saves just in case of course

Mag, Thanks for the walkthrough link...I have already tried that one and I can't get it to work.
Jan
Hi nanette, Thanks for your link (edited out)...I think I know the site you were linking to but Google are advising not to use it due malware.
Thanks anyway.

I'm sorry. Here's a solution my D. Melanson: Look at the piano; neat little scene occurs here. Look at it again; now it's a puzzle(with a bad pun..."STAUFWAY?") Here, you're supposed to play "Simon," basically, and eventually repeat 18 notes. Hope you're a musician. If you are, here's the solution in musical form, low B (the octave Stauf plays it on), then upper B, down to F#, up to G, down to E, down to D#, up to E, up to F#, back down to E, down to low B, up to high B, up to C, down to high B, down to A, down to G, down to F#, down to E, and back up to F#. That's it for that one.
Then you get a wonderful scene with Dutton, Tad, Martine, Edward...oh, boy. As a matter of fact, here's where Dutton gets killed...by Edward. Things get really weird now. Go over to the potted plant and click on it; you'll wind up "climbing" it, back into Dutton's room. So now, leave and go into the doorway across the hall to the right. You're in the bathroom. Amazing! Just likein Dark Seed, there's no toilet in the bathroom! Oh well.

Hi Winfrey, Thanks for the link but as you have realized by your edit I already have that.
It's really great that you and MaG are trying for me though...:)
Anyone else got a solution to my problem???
Thanks
Jan
----------- Thanks Mag, but once again I have tried that but still can't get it right. When I play this puzzle I get lots of double notes played by 'Stauf' and notes that I can hear but I can't see the key that made them move so I don't know which one to follow...I am not musiucal at all.
I must have played this puzzle a hundred times by now and followed every walkthrough and suggestion I can find...It is so frustrating to get so far into the game and not be able to proceed...only 2 more puzzles after this to the end...:(
Thanks
Jan

Didn't the 7th guest have a way of bypassing the puzzles you can't beat? Some book you had to click on? I'm sure I used it on one or two puzzles...

Hi handsfree, Thanks for the suggestion...I will try and find something about this on the web. Jan ------------ Thanks for that suggestion...it is one of the few options I have not yet tried so will take a look. Regarding your comment about using the edit button in your previous post...I'm sorry but I don't understand what it is I am supposed to do. I don't want to break any rules of posting in these forums...could you please explain in simple terms to me what I I did wrong and what I should do in the future...maybe by email so as not to clutter up the thread. Thanks again Jan

Hi Jan, to GameBoomers. If you look at the bottom right hand corner of your last post you'll see a line of clickable options - the Edit button is one of these. That allows you to edit that particular post. So, if you have just posted and then wish to add a further comment, instead of creating a brand new post directly underneath you can instead edit your existing post to include the new comment. That avoids post "stacking" - and helps us save bandwidth, too! If someone has posted underneath you in the meantime, then of course you can make a new post underneath theirs. Also, it is fine to stack two posts if it has been approx 24 hrs since your last post, otherwise threads tend to fall off the front page and we miss the edit. Hope that helps.

From wikipedia: For players who need help or simply cannot solve a particular puzzle, there is a hint book in the library of the house. The first two times the book is consulted about a puzzle, the book gives clues about how to solve the puzzle; on the third time, the book simply completes the puzzle for the player so that the player can proceed through the game. Although the game's manual states that there may be consequences for using the hint book, the hint book can be used without penalty for all but the final puzzle.

I used dosbox (free for download at dosbox.com). If you like to (re)play dos adventures it's the first thing to try, in my opinion.
