There's probably been a thread on this before but haven't seen it. Just wondering which games that people were expecting great things from have let them down.
I have to say Still Life 2 I was expecting something amazing like the first and all we got was an average playable game.
High hopes must have been dashed on others tho.
Also one of the Chronicles of Mystery games let me down or Art of Murder Puppeteer can't remember which now one of those two wasn't as good as the previous game in my opinion.
Have to say the Runaway sequel didn't let me down and from looks of the third when I get around to that it won't either.
Some of the Nancys definitely appeal more than others as well but I swear these can't always be done by the same team so that's understandable I guess. But they always seem popular on here so maybe that's just me being silly and finding them too hard lol.

Certainly Still Life 2 but the biggest dog for me was Culpa Innata. Woeful.

My last really big let down was a long time ago - with Simon 3D I loved Simon 1 and 2 and still replay them but Simon 3D was a completely different kettle of fish and was full of horrible, timed, arcade style sequences The ridiculous thing (as far as I'm concerned ) is that a "normal" third Simon was well into development when a marketing decision was taken to scrap it and start the 3D version instead

There have been many, many games that have let me down but then I didn't have high expectations from them before release. This is a list of games that I had high hopes for and was let down when they were released. Is it a coincidence that they are mostly newer games......I think not
Belief and Betrayal Chronicles of Mystery: The Scorpio Ritual Culpa Innata Dracula 3: Path of the Dragon Forever Worlds Longest Journey, The Next Life Secret Files: Tunguska Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper Sinking Island
And I cannot be let down by a game that comes from the Independent Developers. Their games seem to be always better than their last and that is all the expectation I give to them.

I agree with gamenut about ND games, they are simply boring to me. Also, I actually expected so much from Dracula> The Path of The Dragon, but was disappointed both by the puzzles and the story.

I agree with Mad. My favorite games are the puzzle games with humor. Discworld, Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Ankh,Zak McKracken, etc. When they made Simon 3D I really was disappointed because like Mad I loved the first two Simon games. I think the same thing happened to the Indiana Jones games. Fate of Atlantis and Lost Crusade were awesome but when they went the arcade route they lost me.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Well, I strongly disagree with Culpa Innata and The Longest Journey. Those are two of the best games I've ever played. In fact, they are at the top of my list. There are some games that were semi-let downs, but then I did not have high expectations of them to begin with. They were just fun diversions, such as Nibiru and Chronicles of Mystery. These are games I still enjoyed overall, though. A Vampyre Story was a slight let down, as I was expecting more, but I love it nonetheless. I would buy and enjoy sequels to any of these games. I think the biggest let down I ever experienced was King's Quest: Mask of Eternity. Talk about ruining the series. I wish I'd known about it beforehand so no money was wasted on it. And with everything I've heard about Still Life 2, I think I will avoid that one. It sounds like a similar situation. Too bad, as I was really looking forward to it.

Funny, nobody has mentioned Paradise. It wouldn't play on my old computer. I didn't like the story when eventually it did play on the newer machine.
Liked Anacapri. I thought Culpa Innata was overhyped, thus became a slight letdown. Several recent ND games have been below par (not the most recent). Loved Lost Crown. Chronicles of Mystery are OK but nothing outstanding, as are the Art of Murder series.
As for Runaway series, I thought the first game was OK but the second game was a major letdown. I will not touch the third one on principle.

I thought that Ransom of the Seven Ships was the nadir of the more recent Nancy Drew games. Too many timed sequences spoil the broth... er, game. I really didn't enjoy Paradise either, and struggled through to the end of it with a heavily used walkthrough (to get there that little bit faster). I hate to leave a game unfinished, no matter how lousy it is.

I think my biggest let down was Forever Worlds . The disc had me so frustrated that instead of tossing it I made a coffee coaster to use at the computer while I am playing my real games.

Nancy Drew games started to become letdowns for me. I used to jump right in whenever a new one came out, but stopped a few games ago. White Wolf (#16) was my last 'immediate' (at-full-price) purchase, but about 3/4 of the way through, I didn't even want to finish it. After about a year, I got Crystal Skull, but only at a discounted price (didn't feel as ripped-off by paying less for it).. & I finished it (it was okay). However, if I ever decide to buy #s 18, 19, & 20, the prices will have to be very low. It sounds like #21 (Waverly Academy) is better, so I may buy it eventually.
I thought Lotus Spring would be a pleasing game, but it, too, was a letdown. I think I expected more, since it was touted as being special because it was developed by women, with a woman's perspective. Also, it seemed like it might be an interesting story, with a gentle, peaceful environment. As I recall, I was immediately bored and somewhat baffled... but mostly bored. Kept the game though... thinking it was just my state-of-mind at the time.

I really enjoyed The Longest Journey, it was "TLJ 2: Dreamfall" that let me down. The Atari-style controls stunk as did the change in storyline.

I'd have to agree: Forever Worlds. Huge promise, considerably less than huge delivery. And, if memory serves, the biggest puzzle in that game was getting it to install and run correctly (!).
