RIVEN, DVD. Can someone please help me, I am very near the end of Riven, captured by the Rebels, and whilst in prison given two books, I read “Catherine’s book right through, including the page which has a diagram that looks like an “Ice-cream Cone on legs” on the same page there are 5 squares with a line through the centre of each.,if these are Riven numbers I assume each one is the number 1, is this the” password /combination The Slider seems to be broken up in 5 segments, each segment has 4 smaller lines, I tried the first line in each, in case the combination was 5 1’s, but got nothing, how do I find out what numbers go into the “Slider” After Prison, I head to a spinning dome, use the “Eye” and enter the dome, now I need to enter a Password/ Combination into the slider, I don’t know how,PLEASE HELP> Blackmac

Blackmac, While waiting for the experts -see if these helps. It does look like that is the code. But it is randomly generated. Graham stated Enter the number sequence from Catherine's journal to open the hatch. The numbers relate to the order you press the buttons, not the number of times you have to press each button. Also check UHS Hints.

From Blackmac, There is a slider across the centre, which is broken up into 5 segments, you can slide 5 bars across to any position, and there is only the one button below the slider, so i slid each bar across ,in this instance, each bar I placed on the first small line in each segment, when all bars were placed,(5)I then pressed the button, all bars went back to the left, and nothing else happened, I assume the diagram on the page next to the (ice-cream cone/Telescope)5 box's with a line through the centre of each, is the Riven numeral for ONE, which makes 5 ONES. So close yet so far. Blackmac

I vaguely remember something about those sliding things - you may be counting the first position as "zero" or as "one" - I don't recall which is correct, but try both ways. Only one style is correct; the other would put everything off by one place, even if you have the coded numbers right. Click here to see the page you should read: http://www.fisicx.com/riven/images/riven033.jpgYours will have different numbers.

Yes, this one can be challenging.
The numbers you get from the journal range from 1 - 25, and there are 5 of them (all notated in Rivenese numbers, which you have to convert to decimal).
A typical "code" will be something like:
3, 11, 13, 19, 22 (they are random and change for each game - yours will be different)
And, you'll note, each number is higher than the number to it's left.
So, when setting these numbers into the slider control, you'll see that there are 25 digits along the full length of the slider. In the example I gave above:
1. Slide the far right slider to position 22 2. Slide the next slider to position 19 3. Next one to 13 4. Next one to 11 5. Last one to 3
You are aided by the slider positions having taller lines for the 5, 10, 15, 20 positions. This will help you get them in the proper position. Like this:
....|....|....|....|.... --5--10--15--20---
There you have it. Set them correctly and the dome will open when you push the button.
NOTE: Do not use the numbers on the page that has the upside down ice cream cone thingy. These are for the last puzzle, and the numbers don't fit the proper range for the sliders (these will be smaller single digit numbers, like 3,2,1,5,5).
Hope it helps!

From Blackmac, Thank you to everyone who helped me with the “Slider” numerals, it was 10,11,14,20,23. and I was in, Thank you again. I had to go back and read “Ghen’s Journal”, and luckily I had “Saved “ the game there. One small problem when I went to the book, .the “Linking book” was Blank/Black, so I have forgotten to do something somewhere. I believe the “Linking Book” would send me to “Ghen”. What do I do now, I assume I have forgotten to do something, (go somewhere, pull/push a lever,??) Do I have to go too far back to rectify this? Or can I turn around and complete another task and come back here.? Thanking you Blackmac

Riven, Thank you to all who have helped me over the past. I went back to the Prison” save, and started again, didn’t quite make it to the “Generator Island” and the spinning dome, decided to open my “Linking Book” and I had an Image of the “Spinning Room”, So, because I was finding it hard to get to the “Island’ I “Clicked “ on the “Linking Book Spinning Room” image, and got a blank screen for a minute or so, I was going to reboot,(as there was nothing happening), When I moved my “Mouse’ I got some noise and an image of a native came on, and I realized I was in a cage, a man came towards me who said he was GHEN, and explained how silly I was to walk into this trap; to allow myself to be imprisoned within the “Linking Book” he said he wished it had been Artius, still, he then shot me with a “Spear type gun” things got hazy (and I assume I died) and the CREDITS started to roll, the END. Now I know I can go further back to an earlier “Save” game but I am happy with the outcome, and I enjoyed the game. I think I will now start “EXILE”, which I have on DVD, I can play it on my Win.98 machine, or I can play it on my XP, which has stronger Graphics etc. Does anyone think either machine to use? Do I have to be MORE careful playing this game than the last one, and any hints gratefully accepted I except my fate, and don’t always get a happy ending, I will try harder in “Myst,3 Exile” Thank you again to everyone who took the time to help me. Blackmac
