It started out good....But....Then came the mechanical puzzles.... I actually liked the humor...BUT...Then came the timed part...Where if you lose your lives you die.. I got very frustrated several times... Not my game....Deep six it.. Also...I want to add...Some people will feel a game is good...This thread is about "What You Feel" It has nothing to do about whether the game is good or not.. Many people most likely Loves "Machinarium" I don't...Thats my opinion only.. This thread is not meant to put down any game...I just would like to know what makes you put away a game on the shelve... Ana....Are You Forgetting This....You posted that Lost Souls you put on the shelf It wasn't my favorite either cris, you are not alone. In fact, I couldn't wait to play it and started the same day it released and I still have it half finished. The breathing made me want to turn off the sound, It seemed misplaced most times. Ana

Most dissapointed with Dragon Age. Too shallow, the side quests are not in depth, too much dialogue although the bickering between Morrigan and Alistair is good.

But...I am curious to find out all your thoughts on the newer games.. So many new games have hit the shelves & on download sites...So with the newer games .."What Got You To Say" I have had it With the newer games it's more a matter of being bored. One 3rd person detective-type game seems very much like another, and there's little else these days except cartoon games and horror/ghost story games. Besides the lack of variety in subject matter, there's also a lack of puzzle variety -- too many cases where you get stuck and the only thing you can do is search around for some new object to pick up or some new event to trigger in order to proceed -- not puzzles that could be solved by thinking or "puzzling." If the inventory type puzzles were mixed with other puzzles, it wouldn't be so bad. But they seem to be the ONLY type of "puzzle" in many games -- except for a few timed/arcade sequences which are even worse. Maybe I should try Machinarium, but the monochrome graphics kind of turned me off, as well as that it has mandatory arcade mini-games. If they're going to put those in the game, they obviously don't want me as a customer.

TLJ Dreamfall, disappointed me w/the drastic changes in genre. Sanatarium, forced my way thru because it had an intriguing story line, but after seeing that little girl float back to the shore face down so many times it was so disturbing, even my hubby said deep six it.
Indigo Prophecy, really wanted to play it, but I'm Atari-Style control challenged.

I didn't get on well with either Next Life or Sinking Island - even though I tried very hard to like both. The more I played, the more bored I got But there's always someone who will enjoy games that I don't, so they are not wasted. They are traded

One of the Cameron Files games. I wasn't disgusted, but the panning made me so dizzy, I couldn't play it.

Maybe I should try Machinarium, but the monochrome graphics kind of turned me off, as well as that it has mandatory arcade mini-games. If they're going to put those in the game, they obviously don't want me as a customer. The arcade mini-games in Machinarium were not mandatory as far as I can remember. Only if you need to use the in game walkthrough you have to play and win a little arcade style game first. There is a game of "five in a row", or whatever you call that game in English, in the game that was a bit hard to win but I believe a recent patch have made it easier to win after you have failed a couple of times. And I would't call that an arcade mini-game anyway. I too had doubts about machinarium to begin with, but it turned out to be one of the best gaming experiences for me in years. It's DRM-free too. On topic: I'm a completist and rarely quit a game because it's bad. I usually finish it quickly with a walkthrough just to see how it ends. But a few games have been so awful that I just couldn't stand playing any further. Aztec (The Sacred Amulet) comes to mind, as does a few really old and obscure games, such as Entombed Enhanced. I've started playing Reah a couple of times but have lost interest within minutes despite loving that type of game. I once stopped playing and uninstalled both Rama and Alida, but have since given both a second chance and turned out to enjoy them quite a lot. As regards newer games I was close with Mata Hari and right now I doubt I will find motivation enough to finish the latest Chronicles of Mystery game. Incredibly boring, at least so far (maybe two hours into it).

I recall the arcade mini-games in Machinarium rather well. The Space Invaders machine in the games hall, and the maze/shooter game very close to the end; both of which were mandatory. Bleargh. I never made it past the first few scenes of Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. The controls did me in; my poor guy could do little more than spin in circles and bump into walls, so I had to put him out of his misery.

But there's always someone who will enjoy games that I don't, so they are not wasted. Case - or rather, tastes - in point, four of my fave games (Missing, Evidence, Sanitarium, and Indigo Prophecy) have already made this thread so far, although I'd call them all more atypical than 'disgusting'! Except when they're trying to be, of course, but that's another story. Myself, I've never finished Schizm, Rhem, or, come to think of it, Riddle of the Sphinx. 'Bout the only recent-ish flop for me was the obvious disappointment of Still Life 2, though I played it through once and partway through again. Oh, I've been meaning to get around to finishing the original Art of Murder, too; by the time she flew off to some Random Generic Foreign Country the game had just about killed my interest.

I usually don't get digusted with games but some have way too much conversation such as Culpa Innata, and some are pretty gross such as Sanitarium others are down right ugly like Outcry. Then there are those have too many inventory items and you have to do really rediculous things with them such as Secret Files. And then theres Mata Hari which didn't catch my interest at all.
Whew! well got those off my chest, thanks Darlene for the great topic.

Jenny....I did try to convey that the thread was more geared towards "What Made You Feel" To Deep Six It... I wanted to know why a game made you give up... I do hope people understand that just because you didn't like the game...Doesn't mean that the game isn't good to "Others" Example....I also gave up on "Mata Hari" Out of pure boredom Example....I Loved Sanitarium...Others disliked it.. I should say: What made you decide the game wasn't worth your time.. You...As a Boomer decided the game was a Deep Six for you... Hope I clarified it..

I guess I can't call any game "disgusting"; in fact, The Longest Journey and Ghost in a Sheet were both very enjoyable to me.
There were games that I just got tired of and kind of forgot about, but the last Broken Sword Game (I think that's the one--The Sleeping Dragon) stopped me dead in my tracks when I had to sneak around in a Church and kept getting killed. Now there's a game where I made a conscious decision to deep-six it. There are just so many times a person can play a 60-second piece of game and not make any progress.
Otherwise, I do make an effort to see what's at the end of the game I'm playing.
The answer is....chocolate! Who cares what the question is.....
