Does anyone know if I can purchase the Myst games and play them with a Vista Operating system. I believe they are programmed for Windows Xp, etc.

The original from Good Old Games is compatible -
Myst: Masterpiece Edition

I'm unsure about the others - IIRC there were issues under XP for some.

Edit -

I've replayed several of them under Virtual PC (on Vista), but you'll need an installable version of XP (or 9x) for that. Windows 7 professional (and above) include a copy XP that runs under Windows Virtual PC, so I couldn't imagine why they wouldn't run there as well. Unfortunately with Vista - you have to supply your own copy.

I seem to recall that SirDave over at Just Adventure posted the known issues under XP - give him a PM and see what he has to say (he's the Myst Sherriff smile )

The GOG versions are supposed to work on XP and Vista 32-bit or 64-bit.

Thanks InlandAZ and Jenny. I'll check your comments out. I always loved those games.

The following is a great compilation of patches and fixes for various Myst editions:

http://www.mystcommunity.com/board/index.php?showtopic=22887

There is a patch to fix a bug in the Myst Masterpiece Edition running under XP and it's referenced in the FAQ under Myst Masterpiece Edition in the above referenced article. However, the link appears to be broken, though as indicated, you can still use XP's Compatibility mode which allows it to run with perhaps some sound glitches.
