I have seen alot of new games out recently,
I played Pahelika, I love puzzles, but most of these were WAY to easy, I like games that make me think , not just hunt for stuff... thinking around and through the story, also the story on that one, hmmm what was it, a book it was not fleshed out at all!!
I am grateful for the trade forum recently, because I have been playing alot of the older games that I had not played yet, that makes me wonder though, seems so many of them, are better than the newer ones, I cant think of many recent ones, although there is still alot of new ones I have not played yet, but seems I am in love with the older ones.
How about you?, any new ones that you love?.. I did love the game "Yoomurjak's Ring" and love Lost crown, just wish there were more puzzles in them, like the dig , shivers , and gab knight, those were ones that really pull you into the game...
I just bought Lost souls, the new Darkfall, it looks good,
So what are your fav's of the recent ones??
thanks Marcia

I think some of these are two years ago, but I don't really care for most of the new adventures anymore. The Lost Crown and Last Half of DArknessL Tomb of Zojirs and the New TellTale Monkey Island series are definite great games though. EDIT: Forgot about Machinarium. A fantastic game! Ana

If you want to think, and like puzzles, then a new offering from Big Fish is for you. Eden's Quest: The Hunt for Akua

Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper, no doubt about it.
Also Last Half of Darkness: Tomb of Zojir.

Though I enjoyed every game I played from 2009, nothing really stood out for me enough to put on any top lists. As I said, they were certainly all enjoyable, though. My favorites were probably Secret Files 2, Memento Mori and Ceville. Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper was probably technically the best as many have said, and I enjoyed it quite a bit, too. I have yet to get very far into Tales of Monkey Island and Mata Hari, though, so I'm not sure yet where I am going to place them. However, 2008 had even some stronger games from my point of view - So Blonde, Overclocked, The Abbey and Perry Rhodan were all great games. The Lost Crown, which I haven't yet finished, is excellent. This year is looking even better than that so far, with Gray Matter, The Whispered World and 15 Days on the horizon. Also, I'm still waiting for the disk version of Runaway 3, so for me that will be a 2010 game. I hope we also see Legends of Daemonica: Farepoynt's Purgatory this year, as I am really intrigued by the story in that one. The one and only 2010 game I've played so far, Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, was a lot of fun.

HeavenlyJoy If you are finding that you enjoy old games, have you tried any of the "Zork" series ?? Plenty of thinking required for those My own favourites are Return to Zork, Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor

Hi HeavenlyJoy Return to Zork and Zork Nemesis were both made for DOS but Zork Grand Inquisitor, being later , was made for Win95. I don't know whether any will play in Dos Box - but there will be a Gameboomer who does know and will tell you, I'm quite sure However, "Xplosiv" re-released both Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor . And the Nemesis re-release was for XP so I expect the Grand Inquisitor re-release probably was too. Return to Zork and Zork Grand Inquisitor both have the famous twisted Zork humour but Zork Nemesis is quite different and is a truly dark and serious story. I love all three games and I think you'll find that many other Gameboomers would also recommend them Cheers. Mad

If you can find it, both Zork Grand Inquisitor and Zork Nemesis are on an "Enhanced DVD Version", put out by AcTiVision. Box says Win 95/98. but it plays on my XP. Problem is I got it fron Australia, and can't remember the Game Shop.
But I'll bet between Mad and Flotzam (lives Down Under) a copy can be found.
Also, just read that Activision is working on bringing back oodles of their great games
Addition to Post, just checked Amazon- WOW!!!!! Almost makes me put up my CD Copies for sale.

LOL Granny, I hear ya, some of the oldies go for alot I have been playing many of them from recommendations, from other boomers, like the dig, gab knight and shivers, I have not been disappointed, I am going to look for some of the Zork ones, I need to make sure I havent already traded for some, I am a little disorganized here, and a while ago, went crazy buying alot of older games, seems I did buy one of the Zork games, need to find it and give it a try and look for the others... you probably know how much fun it is to play some of the older games, seems more emphasis on the story and puzzles, I love them thanks for the links...

Hi Heavenly Joy - Some of my most memorable games are 1) The Lost Crown - which was great. 2) Last Half of Darkness -Tomb of Zojir was real special to me - I like the way you HAD to have the contents of the box to finish the game - Nice Touch! 3) If you haven't yet played So Blonde - give it a go !! I was very surprised by it as it was a terrific adventure! 4) The Neverhood - hard to find game BUT WHAT A GAME!! it was done in Claymation - all clay !! 5) Culpa Innata was very good too - a little "talky" but good. 6) Nostrodamus! This was so enjoyable - I was sorry when it ended - A very nice game ! 7) I just finished Tex Murphy - Under a Killing Moon - This was a DOS game! It was re-released recently to play on new Windows machines like XP etc. It was part of a series but this was was special - Do yourself a favor and check it out. A CLASSIC
They were others - but these stand out in my mind and I really enjoyed them.
So many more - so many to try.
It's not the years honey, it's the mileage!

HeavenlyJoy I have not done much gaming recently but if games like The Dig, Shivers, and Gabriel Knight were out there I would love to be playing more. My current wish list has Ankh 2&3,Simon the Sorcerer 4&5,Secret Files 2, Al Emmo, Jack Keane, Runaway 3, Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, and the new Monkey Island games on it so I have that to look forward to.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

My favourite game of 2009 was The Lost Crown, definitely. It had everything I want from an adventure game. In fact, I loved it so much that after finishing the German version I bought the English version as well and am currently replaying it. Another great game in 2009 which I've just finished is The Book of Unwritten Tales. If you're into Fantasy and probably RPGs, you'll love this game - it makes fun of the whole genre in quite a clever way.
Shiny.
