I'm in K'Veer and stuck.
I'm in the area of the walkthrough where I should be looking for the 8th journal. I have pressed the blue lit button. Ran over and pressed the yellow lit button, but where I'm suppose to turn around and "walk to the center of the room" do I leave the room with the yellow button?
I don't see a red button.
I started riding up and down the elevator, going up and down the stairs etc. and also do not find the 2nd pathway at the left side of the beams...I see the beams but don't think I am at the same level as the "four pathways".
Please help and thanks! kdj

Hi kdj, smile

OK, for this one, you have to press the Blue Button, then RUN (you have to make sure you are running, not walking) down the stairs, across the floor and up the other stairs to the Yellow button. Press it, then RUN down the stairs to the floor again. The RED button is on a pedestal in the middle of the big round floor (it's a symbol that is kind-of red). Click it and the floor rises.

Then after riding the floor up, you can walk to the stairs, go down to the newly opened floor and continue your quest.

Hope that helps.

Have fun,

Dadguy

Try holding down the "Shift" key to run.

Yes, if you fail to get to the Red button in time, you just start again with the yellow and blue with the timer reset.

I move in the game using only the MOUSE. I click the left button to walk and I click BOTH buttons together to RUN. Or, as Tally Ho mentions, you can hold down the shift key (or use caps-lock) and just use the left mouse button to run.

Have fun!

I'm in Taghira. At the frozen lake. Just watched the video link you previously gave me which really cleard up a lot!
Does anyone who has played this game feel like there is less mouse control over where you want to go? Seems like the pointer/hand takes me farther than I want to be. GB forum suggested turning down options which I did do but I still seem to overshoot where I want to be. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

kdj, I gather that you are playing point and click for your movement. Have you tried the 3D mouse movement? I used this and could go where I wanted (except where there were invisible walls).

Hope this helps. Dave

Yes, I can't remember the exact terminology for the choices, but I always chose the "total control" option rather than the one that lets you click in a general direction and it would take you forward several steps.

Cheers,

Dadguy

Hmmmm. I seem to be un-coordinated and somewhat dense about this pipe thing.
I'm still in Taghira. I drew the heat symbol, dropped it and from there have tried various things. Regardless, the levers I am suppose to move don't pop up to be moved. I checked all the "huts" and all of those levers are turned to the right. I've dropped the slate and gone to the pipe bases but the things haven't raised up. I thought I saw the lake thawing once but panicked and didn't have my slate. Can anyone advise? No hurry. I'll check in tomorrow and see if anyone knows!
Thank you.

Have you ever drawn the Heat symbol successfully? If you have, you should have a little shortcut on your stone slab that allows you to just click it to draw it again... otherwise you have to draw it.

If the symbol is recognized by the Bahro when you draw it, he'll raise his hands to the skies and you'll see a bright flash... and the "Heat" will be on, raising those valves so you can turn them. If not, then the Bahro is not recognizing the symbol and will take the slab to a pedestal where you'll have to retieve it and try again.

Check to see if you have a shortcut on the stone slab.

Cheers,

Dadguy

Okay. Still trying to draw the heat symbol accurately and without success. How picky is this Bahro? There is a drawing of the heat symbol on the stone slab and I even erased it and re-drew it. Since it is there does that mean it is successful? Even so, the Bahro does not raise his hands etc.
Are there saved games for Myst V?

Thanks in advance from kdj.

kdj, there are several outlines in the shape of the slate at the bottom of each slate. When you draw a symbol correctly it appears in one of these outlines. If you need to re-draw a symbol that you have previously drawn successfully, all you need to do is click the icon.

About the heat symbol, it appears that you haven't drawn it correctly yet. Check the wall carefully to be sure you're drawing it right and keep trying. Once you have done it, it will appear in the single outline bottom left on the slate and you can click this to re-draw it whenever you need to.

Hope this helps. Dave

No saves.

If the symbol is on the slate (small, at the lower left or right), all you need to do is click it once, and it will draw itself.

Then drop the slate and back away... (you must get far enough away that the Bahro feels comfortable to pick it up). When he does, he'll raise his arms and scream, and you'll see a flash and the heat will start and the valves will be popped up.

Dadguy smile

Hello,
I am in Noloben now. (Thanks to the help from Dave McB and Dadguy I finally got past the frozen lake.)
I am very confused about the hut and matching up the windows. I've been looking at the walkthroughs for help and I don't get it.
Do you only match up 4? Using the bowl D'Ni signs?
Where do you start? Once you open a window, do you open the seventh or eighth one around the other side? I guess I need to know the symbols that belong together if that's possible.
Thanks! kdj

kdj, you need to map out all the symbols for the windows, each inside symbol (number) with it's associated window symbol. Then, using the four symbols reflected in the bowls, find the corresponding symbol to use with each rotating stone top.

Hope this helps. Dave

P.S. Did you see how the bowls and centre stone on the table resembles the layout on the plateau?

Sorry to be a pest! I think what I am not getting is:
Do you match up all 15 windows (in what order?)
or, just the four windows that match the bowl symbols down on the beach?
If you do match up all 15 do you do the four bowl symbols first?
I have been matching up windows and I noticed when you look across they don't line up exactly across, or it seems like that because you can see more than one window. So I don't know if I am accomplishing anything.
One thing that is odd is that in a walkthrough, it shows a picture of the first window to open (circle inside a circle with a corresponding sign inside - one straight line) and it's not one of the signs from the bowls.
Thanks for further advice!
kdj

kdj, if you try to do just the four symbols reflected in the bowls, how can you be sure that you have the right ones from the inside. The way I did it was to draw a circle and then mark fifteen window positions around it. I then went to a window and drew it's symbol on the outside of the circle by one of the window positions that I had marked. I then looked in the window and wrote the symbols from the inside wall inside the circle next to the window marks that I felt they should go. Then I went to the next window to the left and did it again, and so on.

As I was doing this, I soon realized that the inside symbols were representing numbers. When I finished, the symbol for one lined up with the window facing the ladder that you climb to get to the top of the plateau. I took this to mean that all the symbols (inside ones and window ones) were lined up.

After that, it was a simple matter of matching the reflected symbols to their associated symbol and realizing that the layout of the bowls on the table showed which bowl went with which stone mound.

Hope this helps. Dave

P.S. The first time I did this puzzle, I did it by brute force;
Go up the ladder and to the first pillar on the right.
Turn the top one position.
Go down and into the tunnel to see if the way was open.
Repeat until it was and then do it again with the next pillar.
Doing it this way I found that each rotating plug gave access to two passageways, one dead end and the other leading to the next plug (or the entrance to the lab after the last one).
