Hi fellow gameboomers. I was just wondering where I should download the new adventure game Jolly Rover when it comes out in June. The official webpage at http://www.brawsome.com.au/JollyRover/ lists the following sites where it will be available for download: Steam Greenhouse Direct2Drive Real Networks iWin (iWin, Exent, WildTangent) Mac game store Oberon Media mygameIQ Club Casual The only one I tried so far is steam and I was wondering if any of these sites are drm free? If not, will bigfish be getting it? Thanks, indyjonesfan

I've loaded a couple of games from steam and so far have had no problems--

Of all those, I would recommend Steam. It states in the F.A.Q. that it will be on BigFish. THat would be the ideal download place. Ana

Somebody kept hacking my Steam account. Steam had to reset my password several times. So after I played one game I stopped using Steam.
Currently Playing: Adventure Game: Broken Age Darkside: Star Wars: The Old Republic

I would wait for bigfish to get the game. I find their prices are more reasonable than steam. Just my opinion.

Hi Ana In the FAQS is actually states:It won't be on Bigfish. That's sad. I just noticed that.
Q. How can I get it? It will be available for download via various digital distribution services, i.e. Steam, Greenhouse Direct2Drive (not Big Fish Games though).

Hmmm..that's strange, it stated it would be before. I would use Steam from the choices listed if not at BiGFish or just wait for other portals to get it. Ana

Just wanted to clarify. You're right, it did say it was going to be on distribution sites like Steam and Big Fish. I wrote that a while back before I had distribution worked out.
I chatted with Big Fish at GDC and they weren't able to support my pricing requirements. All their games are US$6.99 flat rate.
Due to Jolly Rover catering for a niche adventure game audience and the size of the game (25 fully voiced characters, over 60 scenes, 4-8 hours gameplay) I really needed to sell it at the price of US$19.99, which away from the casual game space is a very reasonable price for adventure games.
If I were to support Big Fish's pricing, and be able to continue making games I'd have to make a more mainstream game, like a Hidden Object detective/crime story.
Selling the game at this price allows me to develop games for a niche audience and hopefully be able to make enough money to develop another =0).
Steam have also been very supportive with their revenue share by the way, offering roughly double what Big Fish does, so for developers it's a very attractive model. Also, if you buy the game on Steam you get the PC and Mac versions for the price of one, and your save games are stored online, so you can continue playing from anywhere.
Thanks, Andrew

Ah, but BFG does sell some games at 19.99 if they are larger than the average HOG. Maybe your game would fit their criteria for this 'niche'. Love, Betty Lou

Hi guys, Big Fish contacted me today to talk about distribution, maybe I can wrangle a premium price out of them =0). Game House is part of Real Networks. You can become a member there and get the game for $6.99, otherwise you can buy it at the full retail price of $19.99. I'd still recommend the Steam version, because you get it for PC & Mac, and have access to the Steam Cloud and Achievements. I had a bit of a communication hiccup with Steam, apparently they were waiting for me to give the green flag to open it up on the Store! It should be up up on Steam shortly. If you go to the Jolly Rover site - http://www.brawsome.com.au/JollyRover you can buy keys for Steam that unlock the version before the store comes online. Thanks, Andrew
