I am probably halfway through the game, but I can't separate the cheese from the cheesecloth in the inventory, so I am truly stuck from going on. I clicked on the "gear" in inventory, which seems to work when combining items. I know this is an older game. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

To separate the cheese from the cloth you place the item in the first inventory slot of the area where items are usually combined, and then left-click on the gear icon. The item should then separate out.
