I just cannot believe that there is not any noise in here about Batman Arkham Asylum. I purchased it early, and paid the "early" price. I played for a while, got bored, and ignored it. I haven't checked, but it has to be more affordable now.
It starts out very slow. But do not be discouraged. It's letting you "train" your technique. Once it gets rolling (Note: I am about 35% thru at this point), it is just a total kick to play. If you like bashing the @#$%&! out of bad guys, this is the game for you. Batman has no "weapons" (the batarang is.... well ... not too effective), but gets to kick the @#$%&! out of scores of henchmen. But, be advised, stealth is actually rewarded more generously.
I know...I know, it's Batman, and that is so cliche. Well, I am not a superhero type, but this thing is so good, you ignore that aspect. There is not a weak point. Dialogue, Fighting, Graphics, Sound, Multiple Quests, Character Development, Overall Time of Gameplay, etc are all up to the modern standards. Yes yes yes, it has eye candy............IF your eye candy has lots of grit to it. Note that Batman never actually kills someone. They are unconscious, not dead. Batman does not die either; but when he "loses", it goes back to the scene.
The only downside so far, it auto saves for you, and you cannot go back and replay particularly satisfying/fun sequences.
So, give up those stupefyingly complex RPG's for a while (Divine Divinity, geez, give us a break with that toad), stop memorizing all those mind-boggling details, and go have some mindless fun bashing bad guys and immersing in a complicated storyline.
My PC was a pretty state-of-the-art system some 4 years ago. It is playing the game with no hitches, and even some settings turned up fairly high (Aniso and Anti-Alias). I am having fun with a game again. Been some time since that happened.
