Hi there, MaG,
Thanks for the saved games. I plugged them all in, and found one fairly close to the time, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
I did notice changes in the words used in 'my' saves and those in yours, so there is clearly some difference between the CD version and the DVD version.
The killer is the abortive chat between me and the old folk in Shambala. As there is no sound of voices, just the increasingly irritating music in the background, and the lips of the old folk don't move, I have no idea of the state of the conversation.
According to the W/T, the man should say "the secret in the skull is waiting", but the words never appear on the screen. It stays at "Come, child" and I can therefore get nowhere with the talk.

I reckon something changed with the reissue of the game in DVD form.

Anyway, thank you for trying to help..

PS Anyone got a save for the time after the chat with the old folk has ceased, and I have possession of the gift, whatever it is!!

petert

Just had a check on some other saves that you sent me, and there appear to be considerable differences between the content of the two versions.
One of your saves shows the helpful tribesman tied up in a tent and I free him with a knife from my inventory. In my (DVD) version, this event never occurs, and I never have a knife in my inventory.

Curiouser and curioser, said Alice.

I'll have another look tomorrow and see what else I can find, what other differences and so on.

More experimentation has solved my immediate problem, in that the difference in the saves is because the save that I had been puzzling about is taken from a time in the game that I had not yet reached. Moving forwards from this save resulted in my finishing the game.

Hurrah!!

I'll live with the fact that I never could figure out how to communicate with the old Shambala folk, as I have the secret thingy in my inventory.
Perhaps one rainy day I will try again, but for now, thanks to all for advice and help.

Well; Peter - You certainly present us with a diagnostic conundrum. It just so happens I have both the CD and the DVD versions of this game. How about you send me a saved game from your original problem ( the balcony and the double doors ) and let me try both to see what happens. See your PM to be able to send something to me.

Hi petert,

I'm so glad you got to finish the game.

Petert....

How did you finally resolve the problem?

I downloaded this game from a games sales site a couple of days ago and am having exactly the same problem:

no bedroom, no girl, no genie.... just straight down to the garden after attempting unsuccessfully to enter the double doors.

Would it be possible to get a saved game from someone with the character on the other side of the double doors??

Edit:
I did download the patch after I installed the program.

Hi LadyCav, welcome to GameBoomers.

A couple other members have experienced this problem with the double doors also. Petert posted this info on another thread:

If you are playing the DVD version of the game it seems that not all of the Baghdad segment is on the disc.
As it turns out, you don't miss any of the puzzles though.
All that is missing is the movie section(s) which explain about needing to find a black rose, and about the Tale of the Thief,
but you will still find the rose anyway and can finish the game.

So it's possible to play on and complete the game despite the glitch.

Let's wait and see if anyone has a save that they can send to you, all the same. smile

Thank you very kindly, Rushes.

I'm not sure if the same applies to a downloaded version, but I'll attempt to continue on and see if I can find the rose and proceed to the next chapter.

Thank you kindly for the welcome. I've been lurking here and at the site for months, as well as using the excellent walkthroughs provided here. Figured it was time to go ahead and join.

I appreciate the response. smile

Thanks very much, MaG.

I just made it into Shambala, so I have managed so far in spite of the glitch. I'm really enjoying the game, as much as I did with Atlantis 2.

I'm sure I'll be back before long. I know I'll have another question for The Longest Journey forum when I'm ready to tackle the game freeze I experienced.

Thanks for the kind welcome and all the help! smile
