Hi smile

I'm currently playing the download version of Emerald City Confidential grin

However, if I come play the game again anytime, it will be from the disk version I also bought - which has just arrived - because I don't keep downloaded games installed once I have finished them.

Does anyone know if I will then be able to install from the disk to ANY machine or does it have to be on the same machine as I am now playing the download ??

I filled out this question on a page at Big Fish Customer Support but there was no "submit" button I could use to send it to them woozy

Cheers.

Yes, you can install it on a different machine as long as you have the code. My sister's computer here is not hooked up to the internet. I often download and try games I think she'll like and then will install them on her computer from the CD when it comes.

With the Mac version, you currently only need the code. Alas they're now testing a Game Manager for Macs, which may mean the end of this.

With the PC version, you must be connected to the Internet to activate, but Big Fish doesn't limit the number of your activations.

Thank you, LadyKestrel thumbsup

However, where will I find "the code" ??

I've looked over My Account at the site and don't see anything and nothing came with the disk. It was just a disk in a cardboard slip.

Cheers.

Mad,

At a guess, it will probably play as long as you have the Game Manager installed.

Mad,
You don't get a code with the PC version.
The Big Fish Game Manager handles everything.
All you have to do is log into your account through your game manager and it will contact the Big Fish server and activate the game.

Ah, so that does mean that I won't be able to activate the game on another computer in my house unless I have (and pay for?) game manager on it. I guess my sis is out of luck since she doesn't have the capability to use the internet. Maybe they should change their name to Big Brother Fish instead. frown

The game manager is free and automatically installs. You need to use the same account and login everytime you activate the game. They have a very liberal redownload policy, they are download games, so it would only make sense to have to have the internet to activate.

If you want to buy the retail version then you can install on her computer.

I always buy the back-up CD, Ana, but that will still need activation. Unfortunately, most of these games are only available as downloads, especially for Macs. I guess my sister is out of luck unless she plays the games on my computer.

The backup CD is not a retail version, it's just meant to be a back up for those that want to not have to download it again. It is not the same as the retail version.

And it's kind of useless if they ever have to update the game. They don't release patches. They release patched versions, which means you have to download the entire game anyway if you want the patched version.

Yes, I realize that the back up CD is not the same as a retail version of the game. My point is that most of these games are not offered anywhere as retail disks, so it's download or nothing. Those without an internet connection are simply out of luck.

LadyK -- I think you'll be seeing more casual games being released on disk, at least that's the trend I'm seeing from where I sit. But part of the reason there are so many downloadable games is because it's so much easier to release them through a portal than it is through a publisher on disk. If the internet wasn't around, we'd all have many fewer games to play.

Is your sister in a part of the world where the internet isn't available?

My sister lives with me, Becky, but she's cognitively impaired. Her reading skills are only at a second grade level, and the internet would just be too confusing for her. Her computer is just set up for games both in OS 9 and 10. It took quite a while for her to learn to switch between the two partitions without my supervision, and I still have to install games for her. After crashing her games a few times, she now knows not to click on any alert messages (she calls them papers) until I've had a chance to read them. smile

"If the internet wasn't around, we'd all have many fewer games to play."

Probably, sadly, true rolleyes

Whilst the internet did exist When I started playing games, all the buying of games was done from high street shops or shops which offered a mail order service grin

Then the shops declined and internet sites took over but that was still fine because the games were still available in disk format thumbsup

But if downloads are going to be the next "take over" I, for one, will not be a happy bunny frown

I know, I know, this is probably Off Topic - so I'll get back in my corner now lol

Hi, I have a question regarding this game, do you get a disc copy when you purchase this game from Big Fish games automatically? I noticed when you search for this game there is a website called
AlternativeDVD.com. They also have this game for sale but I don't know if this is a disc copy or download. I'm interested to hear what others think. Thanks

Angelgirl, I cannot speak for the website you listed since I am unaware of it but BigFish will send you a backup CD for a fee if you ask for it.
