menahune, you need also a razor to combine all the objects on the bench. I'm playing the demo and enjoying every moment of it. I'm now at the mansion, absolutely gorgeous graphics, the first HO scene is just enjoyable. I'm going to buy the CE.

Hi, Springchicken! I downloaded the demo and am stuck, but the Strategy Guide isn't available unless you buy the full version and I haven't yet seen a walkthrough posted. I combined the stick with the razor but can't figure out how to get the ball or the ring. Since you're already inside the mansion, can you throw me a lifeline over the gate ? Thanks! Susan

Hi Susie07! Do you have a bucket? Fill it with the water from the gutter, pour it in the hole, you'll get the ball. You know who likes to play with the ball. After that you'll get the pink ribbon which you use on the ring. Elementary...

I love it! Quite challenging but the SG works great! (The download was so huge that I didn't try the demo first. Satellite download is fast but very limited in amounts allowed.) I never played the first game bought in January! I played Midnight Mysteries Rue Morgue but not Dark Tales Rue Morgue! So I have one more game to be played than I expected!! Almost like Christmas came early!
So many games, so little time.

thanks Spring.... On the bench I have the razor and the stick and the string. I gave the dog the ball and now it wants me to cut his leash but I can't get the razor back. So how do I cut the leash?
I've clicked the razor on the stick ten times...nothing and the string won't budge.
None of those items will do anything on the bench. If I can't get past the demo I'll never master this game... so may pass on it.
And I HATE the scenes that play after I click QUIT... uses up valuable demo time and escape doesn't phase it one bit.

I played that demo, too, NYLady, and the razor irked me a lot until I figured it out. The trick is, you can't pick it or the string up. You have to "drag" them to the stick.
I'm with you on the scenes that play after you click Quit. Talk about annoying. And Escape did not get me out.

Hi, NYLady! I hope you are over the bench now after traveler's explanation. If not - the first click on the razor straightens it, after that you drag it to the stick and then drag the rope. There will be other scenes where you'd need to combine the objects. After you will put all components on something (table, windowsill) hover the cursor over them, it'll change to the hand over one of them, start with this object to drag. I agree, that the final scenes were annoying, they show only in the demo. I'm enjoying the game a lot, can't stop playing. Hardly use the hints or the SG.

Since you mention things you hate, Sherryah, I hate games that are practically nothing but one contrived puzzle after another. Not saying this one is since I haven't played the game but too many casual games are trending this way for my liking.
I enjoy inventory puzzles. Even if they're sometimes screwy, they're usually fairly logical and help you advance in the game 'and the story' when you figure them out. These 'twist the dial and/or repeat the sequence so you can open a safe or a box or a drawer to get more bits of yet another puzzle' things make me nuts. I'm becoming more and more leery of casual games because of them.

I like a variety of the puzzles in this game, they all different, challenging enough but not too difficult. One of my favorite types - the sliding blocks - was pretty challenging here, it took me about 20 min. to solve. The music is wonderful IMO, it's so consistent with the beatiful scenery, I'm humming the nice repeated melody when I'm playing. This game has everything I like in IHOGs

Thank you Spring and Traveler. I finally got it.
It's so nice to have a place to come to and release frustrations and then get the right answers to boot.
Love this place. You guys are great!

Is there a walkthrough for this game? There's a built-in strategy guide that comes with the game.

Hi!
I'm playing the demo; got to the Manor, but now have nowhere else to go...seems I've checked everywhere and still can't find way to dig out the hole, chip the step or get the knocker...:(
I think I want to buy this game, but am, like a few others, unsure about the rest of the game if I can't deal with the demo!!
Any hints? What am I missing?
