You play off the original disk. If you want to know if the add-ons are installed, you should now be able to get into the Orrery in the main Mage Guild. You will also see new places on your map, and these are your stronghold options (the Mage one is fabulous).

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Thanks all !! thumbsup

Sticking with the main disk being in the drive, a quest has become available to me now that's in the Shivering Isles sector, so that's that little query settled grin

I have had another thought though ....

As I don't think I have enough time in my lifetime to deal with 60 Gates, how can I tell which gates are the "vital" ones - or will it become clear as I progress through the game ??
[ There are a couple now that have appeared close to towns but so far I have ignored them laugh ]

The game makes it obvious which gates must be closed - only those associated with the main quest and after that quest is finished the rest don't appear anyway.

Hi Mad smile

Glad you're enjoying Oblivion. If you go to a certian ancient ruin, in the very deep of of this ruin, you can find something that will you carry your loot.

And as Yankiee says you only need to close the Oblivion gates connected to the main quest. Did you download the patch yet?

Oblivion is the only game so far where I have only needed the main disc to play the game.

You can check if the dlc is installed by clicking the launcher and selecting - I think it is called datafiles? or something like this?. This should let you see which datafiles are installed.

Be sure to check out the wonderful world of Oblivion mods, too. There's a mod that lets Weye go from a fishing place to a village as well as a mod that adds three villages (with quests) as well.

Hi Karsten smile

I didn't install any patches but haven't had problems with the game so far. [Playing on XP]

What is the patch for ??

[I definitely haven't visited a "certain ruin" though - so that's a treat to come grin]

But I won't be using any "mods" for the time being, thanks. I have enough to get on with already - with the two extensions - because I am a very slow RPG-ER lol

Thanks.

Hi Mad smile

I think your game,Game of the Year? edition? might already be patched. The patch solved some serious crashes around a town, as well as some other stuff.

The 'certain ruin' is just north of the prison island. And if you venture into the deepest level of the ruin, you'll find something...

Unfortunately, you'll have to slay some monsters to get it...

And yes, Oblivion is a very very big game - in itself...

Karsten,
I played Oblivion GOTY about a year ago and after I got strong enough to travel around without constantly getting killed, I explored every ruin in the gameworld (I think) but I always had a problem collecting and carrying the heavy "loot" items because of strength limitations.

Your reference to a certain item found deep in a ruin north of the prison island sounds like something I missed finding. Could you be a little more specific about what this item is named and what it does, and could you also refresh my memory on the location of the "prison island", or better yet, the name of the ruin.

Thanks in advance for the feedback. Please feel free to PM me if you don't want to post a "spoiler" on this thread.

Oh Karsten, please what is the ruin please, please and it's OK to post a spoiler. (Grin) From one danish-er to another. I love this game it's so relaxing and you can make it as challanging as you want - also being able to save anytime = a big plus.

Hi smile

Some help are here:

http://forum.uesp.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9326

As you can, there is also an easier way to get this item.

In fact, I'll recommend this to low level characters as this means getting this item sooner than you'd else be able to. The 4th level of the ancient Ayleid Ruin can be very tough, even if you tone the difficulty all the way down.
[This only works, if you know how to open the developer console, though].

If you want directions to the item, here it is:

http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/211479-how-do-i-find-the-bag-of-holding/

Please also note that you will need to get lockpicks somewhat later on. These can be gotten from a) goblins or b) a shady character outside the wall of the Imperial City.

Have fun smile
(from one Danish to the other - and you as well, Mad smile )

Hi Karsten smile

Thanks for the help although I have to shamefacedly confess to having already done that particular site without discovering the special bag !! blush

Hope it will still be there if I go back and search again eek

Cheers.

Mad laugh

EDIT :
I went back and examined the exact area again but failed to find the bag.
So I did a search via Google and it would seem you actually have to have a specific "mod" installed before you would find the bag.
Is that right ??

Hi Mad smile

Yes, it is correct that you need to have specific mod installed to get the bag. You can find the mod by searching for the bag on tesnexus - or just dod a search for bag of holding and oblivion via google...

Hi Mad....me here....I remember playing Oblivion a long time ago. The original one. Anyway I remember getting way into the game and all of sudden I cant seem to control my character. Come to find out I was bitten by a vampire while sleeping. Had to search all over to find 3 herbs or something like that and I gave up. I think it was Oblivion anyway...

If playing on the cmptr you can use those wonderful cheats to materialize the ingredients and wah la (spelling?) give them to the witch. Can't do this with the PS due to a glitch that prevents her taking the bloodweed also no helpful cheats on PS. Might try playing as a vampire sometime.
