It seems to me that only the most dedicated gamers would play any of the Rhem games. These games are probably the most fiendishly difficult in the entire genre, which also means that Kurt is probably the most creative and imaginative of all the developers.

One quirky feature that definitely applies to Rhem 4 (and to the others also, as I recall) is the compass. When looking north, left is east and right is west. Unless I'm misinterpreting, this seems completely counterintuitive. Any thoughts?

I haven't played Rhem4, but I notice North is different in many games. I always find a clue for one direction and then I can figure out the rest.

I've seen this in other games, and I WISH they'd keep it consistent with the traditional compass rose. I get lost easily enough even without the confusion between east and west!

Actually in Rhem 4 the compass works just like a regular one. The white arrow is always pointing north. Once you look at it that way the south, west and east line up perfectly just like the real thing. What I believe confuses the gamer is that they think the the white arrow is the direction they are facing which except for north they are not.

I can agree with your statement that "means that Kurt is probably the most creative and imaginative of all the developers." Yes he has a mind in a class all by itself. As far as the Rhem games being "most fiendishly difficult in the entire genre" not really. What they are is the most logical puzzling in the genre with plenty of clues everywhere to solve the many conundrums you face along the way.

I agree with GreyFuss.
What makes the compass confusing is that other games display a compass differently, and relatively few people have actually used a ***magnetic pocket compass*** in real life.
