I ordered Black Mirror 2, so meanwhile I decided to replay Black Mirror 1.

After the install/launch(Windows Vista), I was never given the opportunity to enter the security code. Instead, I got a message saying that I don't have administrative privileges.

I have no idea what that means. Does anyone know what that means? Any ideas on how to get past this hurdle?

Is this a patched downloadable version? If not, the only way to play the game under Vista and above is to locate a NoCD patch.

Google The Black Mirror NoCD - you'll find it.

Unfortunately the version of Starforce that is on the game disc isn't compatible with newer operating systems. I believe Jenny has mentioned that if starforce attempts to install itself it will have to be removed before installing the work around (patch).

You'll need an unzipper capable of expanding RAR archives - I use 7-ZIP these days. It's free and one of the best out there. You can locate 7-zip ** Here **

We can't link directly to the NoCD sites - but if you run into issues just send us a PM, and we'll provide more details there.

That's because StarForce was attempting to install and Vista was blocking it. Since StarForce was blocked from installing, you don't have to worry about uninstalling it before applying the NoCD. (If you were using XP or earlier versions of Windows, you'd have to uninstall StarForce)

Thanks, everyone.

I've since installed the game on my XP machine where I played it the first time with no problems. Once again, I was never given a chance to enter the security code.

I tried launching the game several times, and it rebooted my machine every time!

I don't care enough about the game to mess with it. I just hope I haven't wasted my money on Black Mirror 2.

Many thanks again.

Black Mirror 2 doesn't use StarForce.
Have you tried the NoCD for Black Mirror?
You may have to uninstall StarForce before using the NoCD in order for the game to work (assuming StarForce actually installed -- the computer may have rebooted in self-defense instead of allowing it to install. Some antivirus will block it).

Jenny100 I played the first Black Mirror when it first came out. Does that mean StarForce is still on my old computer even though I uninstalled the game? How do I remove it now if it's still there?

Yes. StarForce does not uninstall when you uninstall the game.

If it's been this long and your computer hasn't shown any problems, you can leave it there. You may have installed another StarForce game since then that has updated the version of StarForce. The version of StarForce that shipped with the original Black Mirror had conflicts with USB flash drives, but newer versions of StarForce corrected this problem.

If you want to try to uninstall StarForce, the StarForce website has an uninstaller here
