Hi! It's my first post and I hope I'm writing in the proper section.
I apologize for my bad english, I'm from Italy; my name is Marina and I'm a Rhem games lover.
Actually I like any game with challenging, mindbending puzzles.
I happened to discover an old game from NMG, a russian developing house; it's a little game with no story and very few puzzles, but the main one is an absolutely great puzzle!
I'm not going into details because I don't want to write eventual spoilers, but I would like a lot to know if someone has played it and knows the author's name, and, mainly, if anybody has loved it as I did!!!
I would be eager to talk about this little masterpiece between puzzle-oriented adventures.
One more question: did anybody try to draw a plan of the haunted house? I'm still losing my head on it and I just can't sort it out...

Thanks for reading, have a nice week end everybody!

welcome Ostrich.

I find only a UK game developer site - New Moon Games. Is this the one you mean?

Or is it New Media Generation?

Is this the game you are asking about - Escape from the Haunted House?

Thanks a lot for your welcome MaG!
I'm sorry, I could have been more specific...
It is New Media Generation and the game I meant is the one you can see on this link:

Thanks for your reply!

I have not played the game ostrich but I do want to say welcome to Gameboomers. The puzzle games are my favorites too.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Hello ostrich and welcome to GB.

In the link givin in your post, I can see a download for the WT, but not for the game itself.

Where did you downloaded it from?

Thanks.

Thanks so much for welcome to Space Quest Fan (I love your signature!) and Chief!
@Space Quest Fan, I hope I will have the chance in the future to exchange opinions with you on hard puzzle games.

@Chief, unfortunately Escape from the haunted house from New Media Generation is not downloadable anywhere, it's not a free game and it's not on sale anymore as well. I had the chance to play it because a friend lent it to me. Three weeks ago I wrote to the sales department of NMG to know if I could buy it somehow but by now I had no reply...
Please, if you find a way to get hold of it let me know!
I wish you all a beautiful day, in my country it's afternoon already... :-)

According to what Randy said in ***this thread***, Escape from Haunted House never had an English retail version. So that explains why no one is remembering it. Too bad. I'd have liked to try it.

I've seen it for sale a few times on various eBays in Europe.

@ Jenny 100: I've red the thread... how strange! Actually the friend that lent me the game told me that it was presented in bundle with a computer magazine bought in a newspaper shop. So, maybe that it hasn't been on sale neither in Italy.

@Marian: But was it sometimes ago? I looked for it in e-Bay and i couldn't find it.

Jenny, it's a pity that you can't try it. I do not know how many people would appreciate such a strange little game, but I believe that the conception of the unique puzzle that lies behind it is pure genius!
I had entire days of absolute fun trying to solve it! :-) And it's tough as well!
I'll go on looking for it... if I find something I'll let you know.
Thanks everybody for replying :-)

Ostrich, yes, it was some time ago that I have seen it on eBay. When I did see it, I do remember that one of the sellers was on eBay Italy. It's an infrequent occurrence to see it on eBay, for sure, but it has happened in the past. You would probably have to check eBay every day for months and hope to get lucky and see a listing for it. smile

If there hasn't been an English release, what language was it then?

Thanks a lot Marian! I'll write a sticker memo to check eBay daily ;-)

HandsFree, the game I played was in English... I think that should exist a Russian version too, but in no other language.

I'd be happy to find one to buy and store between my favourite games, but I'd be even happier to find someone who has played it! It would be so fun to exchange opinions on the architecture of that weird house!!!
The friend that lent the game to me gave up in trying to make a plan of it, too bad!

Well, I hope to play it one day, but then you have to leave that ebay copy for me... grin

It's a deal HandsFree wink
I'd rather sharing than owning greedily! After all I was lucky enough I had the chance to play it.
The only thing I hope is that nor you neither anybody else who will try it would be disappointed. I stated that it is a strange little game, not a real adventure: no story, no charachters, only you and... the house; and that tricky puzzle! crazy

You sure got me curious now, ostrich.
I've been on the lookout for this game (and many others) for some time, but have not seen it on ebay yet. Let's hope two copies will surface soon. smile

I hope one day, maybe, it can be considered abandonware, given that the developer still remember having created it (I'd like so much to know his name and how to contact him/her)...
The sales department of NMG didn't bother to reply to my purchase request, not even to say "don't know what you are talking about"...

ostrich, abandonware is not a legal way to obtain a game. If the developer/publisher does not permit the game to be released for free, it is not legal for you to obtain it for free because someone illegally offers it without consent. YOu agreed to abide by these rules by becoming a member of GameBoomers.

Way off track and not the game mentioned.... but I was reminded of a haunted house (flash?)game we were searching for & talked about in the past... and that --gladly-- is now listed in the Free Games Galore section. It's called "The Haunted House". It provides some quick-fix fun, esp. around Halloween, or when we're awaiting the release of a favorite (full) game. AND.. I see that now there's a second Haunted House... both there thanks to Chief, I suspect.grin

Escape From The Haunted House published by NMG is a rare and obscure game that is definitely sought after by collectors. I know of a few people that have gone to great lengths to track down a boxed copy, but as far as I know have not been successful. All attempts to contact NMG either are not answered, or they are non-commital about providing more copies.

I think there are a few copies of the game that have made the rounds. I played a copy that an internet friend loaned me. It is a strange game, and ostrich described it well. The entire game is all about just one meta puzzle really, but it is a doozy. I never would have finished the game without a walkthrough. The dimensions of the house I think can't be quantified as there seems to be warp zones of sorts that make drawing a map kind of hard. It's been years since I played it, but I remember that about the game.

So for anyone who wants to play this game, your best bet is to start asking around for someone who has a copy of it to lend it out. I doubt ebay will have any copies in the near/far future.

Check out 'Traveler' Gil's thread about GOG's wishlist. You can vote for games and add your own to the list if it's not already there... then we can go and vote for it! I've voted for Ghosts, Grim Fandango, and Golden Gate so far.

You're going to heaven for that.

Thanks Traveler ~ Nice to have even an inkling of hope that old favorites might be given a new, digital life... playable on current OSs. With a name like "Escape...Haunted House"... who here couldn't resist? Same with Infernoj13usa's review about "Ghosts." I've played "Grim Fandango", so no mystery there (doubtful that the disk would even install/play now frown ).
Tantalizing titles. Always interesting to see if the games 'hold up' to their titles and to our memories of gameplay. And to think... if places like GOG are able, we might get the opportunity!
