AH,You’re all a bunch of SISSYs, Hardy HAR HAR Ok, I just couldn’t resist and always wanted to say that line, but…
Seriously, I am like many of you, Once upon a time I had lots and lots of patience, heck, I even played games like Myst 1 and 2 (Riven), RAMA, withought a Walkthrough. But since about 5 years ago, games like Myst, Rhem and even trying to replay RAMA, zoom, swoosh, Delete, gone………….
Darleen03: “Murder in the Abbey”, I’m with you 100% on that one, 1.5 hours of playing that one and Good bye, you’re out of here….
I agree with the one who mentioned Al Elmo, I got this game from a friend who said “Try this game, you will Love it”… So I tried it and I could not believe ANY One playing this game with a Main character that had such an annoying voice that you wanted to kill him, called my friend and he burst out laughing knowing full well why I was calling.
Sureshot: I agree with most of your picks of not repayable games, maybe just Dead Reefs, it wasn’t so bad for me, and I may play it again, maybe.
Rushes: I agree with you on the Sam & Max games, I bought the one that had 6 Episodes on them, and believe me you “They are all bad” no improvements and the Voices although not as bad as Elmo, still annoying just the same.
And as for Cartoon type games, yes I am fed up with half of them re: the Monkey Islands (although I loved the Original first 2 or 3 versions), and the Gobliiins series ARRRRRGH!! But I agree with Traveler: Games like BS1 and the series, Gabriel Knight, are still fun to play….

I have to say Whispered World was like that for me. Ouch! Try as I might the main character was so annoying I considered the awful voice acting was perfect. Think of it this way, you have a bad lead character easy to hate simply add chalk board grating voice acting and you perfect it. I finished the game simply because I hated it with a passion. I know warped thinking, especially when you consider Road Adventure 1. That was so bad it redefined the term. About the time the main character had to go upstairs to throw an item out the window into the trough so he would not get his hands wet was the moment that game went out the window. Nope never finished it and refused to even consider the rest of the inane series. To say it was more annoying than Ankh is a lot but at least I finished that one. However I finished Whispered World too. I am so glad we have characters like April, Kate, Gabriel and Grace. They really soothe the wounds created by garbage inflicted on us.

Don't forget Fenton!...and, I have to say it, Manny and Glottis (who could be annoying but I love him anyway).
Gil.
PS: Do you suppose if I played Dead Reefs drunk I'd feel as if I were sober?

Starcom - I am impressed you played out Dead Reefs !! I loaded it - started it and it took about 1/2 hr. before I dumped it. It looked like a game I could get into - until I tried moving the character around and into and through walls. I don't even remember his name. Murder in the Abbey was another one I could add to my list. Way way toooo much chatter, repetition, and backtracking.

jeepers ! i can't be the only one who likes cartoon type graphics ! i thought the ankhs were all wonderful.as long as the graphics fit the game ,i'm good with 'em.... then again , i thought about how often i turn the sound off in games - i think it's sensory overload - everywhere you go , they have music playing on the systems -every store, everywhere. so sometimes ,the dialogue or music in a game is just too much because of the mood i'm in ,not a drawback of the game itself.......does that make sense ? poor developers , trying to please the crabby old people

You are not alone, Niteowl07 I really liked So Blonde, it's one of my favorites. I also liked Al Emmo once I got past Al's voice, the game played well for me and I thought the announcer was very funny. Also good were the Runaways ( 1 and 3 - didn't care for 2 that much ). I have nothing against the cartoonies as long my general gaming criteria is met i.e. good puzzles, good graphics, interesting story, and fun to play. Actually, one of my favorite games wasn't cartoon or anything like what we have today. It was The Neverhood ! Claymation ! I was just intrigued by how the game was made, the music was funky, it had a story, and the puzzles were a bit out there - but fun. Yes - the mood that you are in does affect the game sometimes and everything around you for that matter. I do understand. Poor Developers !! If they listen to us - the games they turn out would be mostly on the "good" scale not on the "fling out the window" column!

Ahhhh Mad - I know - I was just letting off steam When I started playing, seemed like you finish one game and couldn't wait to get the next one, and the next one was as much fun to play as the last one. Today - I have to play 5 or 6 games before I hit one that was really fun for me.

I admit to insanity, freely and openly. I do not like mazes, but I get all silly for slider puzzles. THEY GOTTA MAKE SENSE!! I have left a few Nancy Drew games loitering on my PC, one has been here for 2 years. Blackmoor something or other. While I am crazy for the older Nancys, the most recent one I really liked was 'Danger By Deception'. Fool for snorkeling (even though it was virtual) and NO COOKING. Food is nice, but not in a game cuz I can't taste it or smell it, so shut up Ms. Drew. Rama, never finished it and didn't feel bad for deserting it. Math, yeeech! Rhem1, finished 2, but that radar field in 1 gave me nightmares. We should have found cadavers rotting in there.

gatsbygirl,
I almost gave up on Keepsake but the puzzles were so hard I stuck it out just for them. I'm not sure what it was the game was visually pretty but I think the limited character interaction was a turn off for me.
My experience with Paradise was the same as yours. I purchased the game because the first Syberia game was so good.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

I keep installing The Lost Crown and trying to play it but the main character is such a dork! He never reacts the way any normal person would to the situation he's in or what others say to him or ask them what I'd want to know in his shoes. And even though the creator is reading his own lines, he reads them peculiarly, pausing in strange places...I dunno, I just can't deal with him yet. Maybe some day.
As for Nancy Drew, I cannot stand the interface.
Gil.

aah , benoit sokal had me with Amerzone ,too. i went back and found that one after the syberias , and loved it as well. if you haven't played it , it's worth hunting for. that's a thing that i find disappointing sometimes - that we get 2 -3 games with low requirements , then the next one comes out and you can't play it without NASA quality pc's. or the price is just crazy... sorry , i digress and yes , nancy's charm is a hit or miss thing lately ,but i still finished the last one i played - it was just "eh" at the end

I seem to remember The Lost crown had some 1st and some 3rd Person Providing the story is good and the interface friendly, I will play and enjoy both And I felt The Lost Crown to be well worth the play and am looking forward to the next game in the series

I thought The Lost Crown was pretty good. It had a very spooky setting which worked well - the game played well also - the puzzles were pretty good too.

Sure, I've left many a game hanging and eventually uninstalled it. Game playing is a hobby to me and if I'm not enjoying it, it's gone!!! My reasons are too varied to list. I think I have a tendency to finish collector's editions more often. It's so convenient to use the guide within the game. Also life in general tends to interrupt my interest from time to time. Nevertheless, I will continue to keep buying and playing. Teddo

This only happened to me once with King's Quest VIII - Mask of Eternity. I got tired of constantly killing monsters and getting very little story in return, so I gave up on it. Otherwise, I pretty much finish everything I start. I've stopped playing Murder on the Orient Express and Broken Sword now, but not because I've lost interest in them! Since I'm moving, playing games have been put on hold, for the most part. Will resume later next week, once things have calmed down. There are some games I find only "okay" - Undercover: Operation Wintersun, Dracula Origin (sorry, I know this has a lot of fans! ) - but even these games have some amusing quotes/things I enjoy about them. I didn't care for Phantasmagoria and Torin's Passage (though I wanted to like both) but I did play them all the way through because I had to find out what happened. Have not replayed either, however. Other than that, I tend to avoid games I have no interest in or think I wouldn't enjoy, so I generally enjoy everything I play now. True, sometimes I'm disappointed because I think I'm going to like something more than I do (the latter is true sometimes as well ), but I still end up enjoying the game overall. Sometimes replays are better, too, since I have different expectations afterward.

Yes-i've also left a few games unfinished. For me a game needs to 'grab' me during the first 1/2 hr or so...Yes i do give them that long...then i begin to get the 'is this all there is?' feeling, which usually means i Will continue for a bit longer but then it'll go into the box in the closet.Nancy Drew games..Yuck and Ditto to the Agatha Christie ones as well..and i loved the ND books and revere the AG books/plays! games with dialog you have to click and click and click are now mostly pathetic. If the dialog was actually Good that might make a diff but i doubt it. What time wasters. I like a game that's got good atmosphere, story line and good puzzles..not timed. Doesn't have to have graphics that you need to get 'a PC that runs NASA'. Syberia 1 just had me at the opening...DarkFall 1..could almost Smell the waterfront, Riven-the lagoon-water seemed so real i have it loaded on my other PC so i can take a mini-vacation when i want. I generally like mysterious and/or spooky games..I just about gave up on the first Darkness Within because it took a long time to 'get into it'-was so glad i didn't..but don't know what the 2nd is like..don't have a newer pc to play it.. I find the graphics in several of the older games just as satisfyingwith the game as some of the more graphically intense new ones, even better most of the time because seems like more went into story and writing - and atmosphere..which sound can play a good part in...you can have a big old rainy looking day but without the sound of thunder or rain drops it just falls flat. I have taken to playing a lot of 'casual' games. Quite a few of them, and i think is because they know generally their time is limited, that can really dish up a good atmosphere and story and puzzles! There have been some that i feel if they'd just gone a bit farther they'd have the $25-30+ adventure game 'oomph'. My fave game makers are Jonathan Boakes, William Fisher (III ?), and Matt Clark, and ther are others as well but i can't think of them right now .. I miss really good games. Such a shame...especially now that i Really have the time to Play 'em !!! Darn and Drat !
