Here's some info about the dates on the coffin: The death date is on the front of the mausoleum; the date of the fire and the rebuild date should all be in your journal/casebook if you looked at all the newspaper clippings you came across in the game. The birth date takes several steps to discover. You must win at a game of checkers with Vinton in the tavern, you may also hit the "skip" button which counts as a win. But if you don’t beat him or hit "skip" you cannot progress. After you win, he will tell you he will have a fax sent to you with info about the manor. Go to the den (where the computer is) and click on the fax, then click on the piece of paper in the fax. The birth date will be in the bottom right of the page and is handwritten. Once you look at the page from the fax, the birth date will be entered in your journal. This is another randomly generated solution. You cannot use the solution from the strategy guide or the walkthrough, you can only use the date given to you by your game. Once you have entered all of the dates (vertically or horizontally only) you must click on the lever on the left of the number board.
Let us know how it goes.

The date of birth is the only date that is unique to your puzzle. The other 3 dates are always the same. Some people have trouble because in some games some of the dates may appear more than once and they have to figure out which one the game wants. SPOILER -- these are the 3 dates that always appear: I'm sure one is 1812 and the other 1808 and I think the last is 1806. Some think they have 1872 but it is actually 1812. DOB is in 17**

Gatsbygirl, Glad you got that worked out! That has been a real problem area for lots of others. Marian, I think the developers thought all us "women" playing this game wouldn't know how to use a screwdriver anyway, so they made it plumb difficult. {joke, sarcasm}

Did anyone run into this problem? I got to the cemetary gate but for some reason the game kept telling me to get another key which I already had. So, even though I had all 4 keys, I still couldn't get the lock opened. It's like the game didn't recognize I had picked up all the keys. I have started over with another name but haven't gotten that far yet. Would still be curious as to why it won't recognize all 4 keys.

I liked the cannon puzzle, but I think I'm the only one! It did take some serious hunting on that map though.
Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.
