Not many details yet, but TellTale games has announced they will be making 5 new episodes of Kings Quest in agreement with Activision, who owns the rights to the Kings Quest franchise.

Wow, I'm in shock!! I hope this means they have Sierra employees on board. I love the Lucas Arts style, too, but it has a more wacky feel in general than the Sierra games. Here's hoping they capture the spirit of the original KQ's.

I'm tentatively very excited, as this is my second favorite game series being revived!!

(First is Gabriel Knight. Is that next?? )

This is great news. With the exception of KQ8 I loved all the Kings Quest games.

As an original KQ fan who bought them in the 80's as soon as they came out, I'm maintaining a wait and see attitude.

I'm hopeful but skeptical.

It's interesting that Activision has given Tell Tale Games the go-ahead to do this only after both Infamous Adventures and AGDI remakes have proven popular - and now the original game from Phoenix Online, which the developers had to fight hard to make.

I agree, the new KQ certainly won't sully that game. As far as I'm concerned, TSL is the true King's Quest continuation until further notice. The story in it is just excellent and keeps getting better. I'm really loving Episode 3 especially. I can't imagine anything topping it, though I will probably play pretty much anything KQ related. Unless it's along the lines of KQ8.

No, you were right, Mad. They did have to deal with Vivendi. It's just that they had to deal with Activision, too. It's amazing this game is coming out now. I'm so glad we are getting the chance to play such an excellent game!

Actually, the more King's Quest games (or any other good re-vamps of oldies) we are offered, the better, as far as I'm concerned as it means yet another Adventure is being released

Good question! I love the suspense! Makes the anticipation more nuanced.

My guess is that they will ignore it, since it's unofficial. I only hope that their story doesn't contradict TSL's too much, as I'm considering TSL a continuation of the series. If it does, I will have to assume it takes place in an alternate universe.

Surely "any other adventure" undertaken by a King's Quest protagonist (whoever the developer might be) will be just that .... "another adventure" ??

I REALLY enjoyed the storyline TSL has developed. The new versions will have big shoes to fill in that respect.

Well the original King's Quest stories are still the best for me but all new versions are welcome and will all have their own merits

It's really impressive what Phoenix has done with this game. I wouldn't have thought such emotional involvement could be possible but they've certainly elevated this way above what I expected from King's Quest, much as I've enjoyed the series. TellTale should be watching and taking note of what "passionate fans" can do and have done against all odds.

Traveler, I absolutely agree. Really, I'm wondering how TellTale's version is going to measure up. I'm sure I'll end up getting their game (once the disk version is out, of course ) but they certainly have a lot to live up to.
