I'd like to replay this old game on Win7 Home Edition. Can't find any info on compatability. Is StarForce the issue here? Thanks.

It is Starforce that's the issue - just Google The Black Mirror NoCD you'll find the patch to resolve it.

I downloaded ims-tbmf.rar and copied it to the game folder. The game still won't launch, nor can I input any identification code to go further. Was that the correct patch?

You will need to unrar it first. .rar files are archives that contain the actual files. Use WinRar, WinZip or something similar.

7-Zip will unpack *.rar files, Bru. Here is a link to d/l 7-Zip. It's free.

7-Zip download

I get the same error message with WinZip, WinRAr and 7-Zip....blocked by Windows. My computer is 64-based with Windows 32 system. What's the problem? My game is a legit retail version with attached legit codes. However I can't get past the StarForce message to reboot. Do Black Mirror 2 and 3 have StarForce? If so, I'm not buying.

InlandAZ, I installed the game on an older computer with XP and it worked the first time after accepting code key. Maybe it is a Win7 problem and not StarForce. Is there a workaround with the registry files and how do I do it?

I don't recall having to modify any registry settings to start the game under Windows 7. All you need to do is unpack the NoCD patch and replace the game's executable (there should be instructions on the download site).

Use 7-Zip, as mentioned above, to extract the content of the patch.

I get the same error message with WinZip, WinRAr and 7-Zip....blocked by Windows.

Did you replace the game's exe with the one provided in the patch?

cruise02, thanks for the link. Got it to work on Win7 but the game still won't launch.

Sorry to be such a pest...but the .rar file changes to a .nfo file and reads System Information not an .exe file. I did replace the game's exe but it does not work. Do you have a link for the NOCD patch? I might have to rent my neighbor's bedroom just to play the game on her computer!

I think you downloaded the wrong patch - Check your PM's...

Edit you'll need to enable PM's first smile

I've repacked it as a zip (bm.zip) and uploaded it to Sendspace. Extract it to your Black Mirror folder and see if that works.

Click the My Place link (at the top of this page) - select Preferences, and look for:

Accept private messages from other users?
Yes or No

Make sure it says yes.

Edit -

I see Jenny uploaded the file for you - just download and replace the EXE...

Okay, you meant MP not PM. Jenny's file which is a DS_Store File did not work. The original NOCD Black Mirror has to be the right one as it had agds.exe, data adb, majer, majerk and mejerk (all files that are contained in the folder.

No, I meant PM (Private Message) - It looks like the version Jenny uploaded isn't the same as the one I have, so it may not work for you. What version of the game do you own (e.g. English, German etc...)?

The English patch contains the following (4) files:

  • adgs.exe 2417 KB
  • data.abd 2119 KB
  • majer.chr 59 KB
  • mejerk.chr 59 KB

Plus the .nfo file. Enable your PM's and I'll send you the link.

Edit -

Check your PM's - I sent you the link. Also, you mentioned that you're unable to enter the activation code... Do you still see this message after applying the patch?

If so, download and run the Starforce Removal Tool -

StarForce Driver Removal Tool

PM is an acronym for Private Messages.

EDIT: Oops, Inland beat me to it.

Gardens put to bed. Time for more reading and gaming.

The zip file I compressed should decompress into 5 files:

agds.exe
data.adb
majer.chr
mejerk.chr
majerk.chr

The DS_Store file is an artifact of my using a Mac computer.
It's meaningless for a PC. Delete it.

If you're not seeing the other files after decompressing the zip file, I think you must have some antivirus that's working overtime and blocking nearly everything. I've uploaded all these files to virusscan.jotti.org and it did not find any viruses.
