Hello again!
I installed this game on my XP Professional OS and the game doesn't want to start at all!
I had it installed in Program Files but took it out and dropped it into my Documents file. Still nothing going...any suggestions??
Thanks for the help!

If you just did a Cut from the PF to the Documents folder that sometimes dosen't work since some of the Links to the game is not set properly, one should uninstall and then Install it to the Directory of your choice.

Also, there are patches for this game:

Good luck

Thank you guys...I will try that and let you know
the results!

Couldn't get back for a while!
I uninstalled the game and re-installed it in "My documents" file, then I downloaded the patch and installed that and when I clicked on the icon to start the game this message appeared:
UNABLE TO LOCATE COMPONENT (header) then:
this application has failed to start because
ijL15.dLL was not found. Re-installation of this appl.may fix this problem" (end quote)
What do you suggest? Uninstall it again and maybe
put it in the Program Files?
Thanks for the help guys!

Hank,

What that means is that you should download ijl15.dll and install it. It think it goes in Windows System 32 but I'm sure someone will correct me if that's wrong.

Here's one place where you can get the dll file.

Gil.

You install the dll file manually by copying it to your C:\Windows\System32 folder

Forgive my ignorance...how do I do that? I couldn't find C:\windows\system32 in my files. when I click on the file icon it says it cannot be opened until I find a program that can.

Hank,

To manually copy the dll file, right click on it and select "copy". Then go to the System32 folder.

To find C:\Windows\System32, double click the Computer icon on the desktop or on your start menu. Then double click on the C drive icon. (It will probably look like a folder and be at the top of the list of drives.) That will open a list of all the files on your C drive. "Windows" will probably be the last folder on the list. Double click that and go down the list to System32. Double click on that to open it.

Put your cursor anywhere on the white space, right click, and select "paste". That will put the dll file in the folder where you want it. You don't have to do anything else. When the game opens, it will look there for the dll file.

Hope that helps,

Gil.

Thank you so much Gil,
I did get it in there but it is in a zip file, so I suppose I have to unzip it, but windows cannot unless I go on the internet and find a program that will do this...why is it that they say it can be fixed in 3 minutes..a FREE?? download, and I have tried this several times...all they want first is for me to BUY their program, some kind of Registry fix..I already have one of those but the dll still isn't working...kind of frustrating isn't it? Got any idea how to get around that?
Thanks man!

Get 7-zip, which is free and will decompress several types of compressed files including rar files.

http://www.7-zip.org/

Also, every version of Windows since XP has been able to unzip zip files.

I've also uploaded the unzipped ijl15.dll file to
http://www.sendspace.com/file/1o9jx6

So, just stick Jenny's unzipped ijl15.dll file in your Windows\System32 folder and all your troubles should be over, Hank.

Enjoy the game! wink

thank you Jenny and Gil for your efforts!!
I got the unzipped file and stuck it in wi\system32 folder and threw the other ijl15.dll
the unzipped one, out.
However....I clicked on the icon and it will not start the game!! At least I don't get that message that the dll file isn't there, so that's an improvement, right?
I opened the game file and found "autorun" but that didn't work either. This game is supposed to run on XP...is there a "what next?"

Try right-clicking the file, choosing Properties, and the Compatibility tab. Try Windows 98 compatibility and if that doesn't help, try Windows 2000 compatibility. Try the game both with and without the patch.

Good night!

What happens if you change the resolution to what the game uses before starting the game? I think it uses 1024x768.

It might depend on which version of the game you have. The original version may need more tweaking than the download versions currently being sold.

It doesn't work on that resolution either!
The game has 2004 for the year it came out.
Should I uninstall it again and run it from Program Files folder or back into my Documents folder? I wonder if the downloaded patch was bad?? Or try it again on WIVista business and get a new patch? I am just grasping at straws here. Thanks for staying with me though, that is very nice of you!

The patch you downloaded may not have been for your version of the game. If you're playing the original 2004 boxed version and not an updated version, then you may need the patch. If you have a newer version, you probably don't. Not with XP anyway.

If you have the Dreamcatcher version from 2004, you can get the Nvidia patch ***here***. I don't know if it's the same as what you downloaded or not.

Since you don't have Vista, the Vista patch probably won't do you much good.

Make sure you're installing from an account that has administrator privileges and don't install in C:\Program Files. You might try changing the compatibility mode of the Setup file to Windows 98 or Windows 2000 before running the installer.

If you've got an antivirus going, try turning it off before installing.

Thanks...I will try that!

So I should uninstall the EP again? then adjust the compatibility mode as you suggested before re-installing this game? The EP came in the original 2004 box and I am in XP OS.
Since I have also the Vista biz OS on my computer, I could install it there also and use the vista patch then?
Also when I am in the XP OS I would then download that patch for EP to run in the XP mode right?
Thanks again for your help, I appreciate it!

Try it without the Nvidia patch first. If that doesn't work, try it with the Nvidia patch.

Try that both with and without the patch (using compatibility mode for the Setup/Installer file before installing it)

You wouldn't need the Vista patch for XP. You might need the Nvidia patch.

The one from ***here*** should because it's Dreamcatcher/The Adventure Company's website.

Too late to get the patch from Dreamcatcher now anyway. Their patch site is gonefor good now, though it was still there when I posted.
