I'm afraid my windows 7 64-bit is acting up. Nothing serious, though.

Upon shutdown it doesn't seem to want to accept my last set of automatic updates. When I start the computer, I get the turquoise screen that gives the percentage updated, which always stays blocked at 0% until it bypasses and goes to my password screen.

Any ideas on how to make it accept the last updates , or how to roll back?

To roll back there's system restore.

Have you tried rebooting immediately after the update instead of turning the computer off? It sounds like you're turning the computer off and having the updates install when you turn it back on.

You could also try manually installing the updates one by one, in case there's one particular update that is causing all of them to be rejected.

Draclvr and others are more familiar with Windows 7 than I am, so you may get more useful advice from them.

System Restore would definitely take you back to before the updates failed. You might try that and then change your settings to review your updates before installing. Then you can select them one at a time to see if just one is causing the problem.

You could go into your updates and see which ones are causing the problem. It will list them as "failed." Click on Start, Control Panel and then System and Security. Selecting the Windows Update option will allow you to look at your updates and see which ones are not installing. There is a Troubleshooter in there that also might be worth a try. If you find some failed updates, you can right click on them and an error code will be displayed that might be helpful.

Are the updates you are the new Service Pack? I had the same problem on Vista a while back. According to the MS site I had to uninstall my Virus checker (Just turning it off wont work), intall the update then reinstall the virus checker.

Cant remember which one I was using at the time - I think it happened around the time of Vista SP1. It was a right pain. Took me a few days before I found out how to sort it.

Dont know if this was the exact article I used at the time but Resolution 4 was the sort of this I read.

Am not using Vista atm. using Win 7 64-bit . with Kaspersky latest version installed. I just made one tweak re: Office 2010. Upon restart, everything went fine.

Have switched off automatic Windows update. from now on, will pick and choose my updates MANUALLY.

Thanks all.

Good move, ikonius! I had one hanging me up too and because I do them manually was able to weed it out. Glad to hear things are working again!

This occurred to me this morning after an update downloaded last night. The error message at startup was: Failure Configuring Windows Update, Reverting Changes.

All I did was manually download the update, and reapplied it.
