I seem to be baffled early in the game. I've searched older threads, but haven't seen a discussion about the place where I am stuck.

I have searched the Istenes Wine Cellar. I have picked up a candle and looked close at two etchings on the wall. For the first etching, by the wine barrels in the corner, Jonathan says something about it must be hundreds of years old. (I couldn't really tell, as per the w/t, that it looked like the crucifixion, tho). For the second etching, Jonathan comments about "I'm captured" and perhaps Yoomurjak for the initials. Jonathan doesn't wish to talk to the proprietor again.

I'm supposed to go to the cafe (near the hotel) and talk to a "Karla" about the Library or museum and get a new location marked on my map. But she's not there. No one is sitting at the bar. Jonathan doesn't want to talk to the lady behind the bar. Juli can't be called or talked to in person. He doesn't wish to talk to the desk clerk at the hotel. So I must have missed something in the wine cellar??

I've been back to #8 Kocsis Street and examined the 3 letters, map, and cypher again, with no new comments from Jonathan. This game certainly seems to be very linear. I tried to read Jonathan's comments about the etchings on the wall, but the notebook only lists conversations with people.

Can anyone give me a clue as to what I have missed?

Thanks.

Is there more than one cellar in the game? This wine cellar has no stairs. There's only a back room seen through open doors behind the wine maker that cannot be accessed. There are only tables, barrels, and old wine making presses. I've gone back again but could find no more hotspots.

I've looked at the w/t again and wonder now if I might have messed up. After going to the hotel room and finding nothing to do, I went downstairs to see if the desk clerk had anything to say. HE was the one who told me where to find the Istenes Wine Cellar. The walkthrough says I should have gone and talked to Juli and she marks the new location AND mentions a Karla. Since I did not talk to her about the wine cellar or the ciphers, she did not mark the wine cellar on my map or mention a historian by the name of Karla. I went straight to the wine cellar and then back to town. And now Juli won't talk to me - she's apparently very busy, Jonathan says.

With only 8 game save slots, I overwrote my first save. Will I have to start over, you think?

Thanks, Geo.

LadyCav,

The above is what you need to see at the cellar. There is only one cellar.

By this time, you should have read all that is at 8 Kocsis St.
The one that you need to trigger Juli and the historian is the coded piece of paper at top of map. The scripts are alphabets created by Gardonyi.
You would need to know how to decode that and Juli and the historian will help you there.

Best to study that script now and see if you can move forward. luck and keep us posted.

Thanks anyway, Geo. I appreciate it.

In the meantime, I went back to the only other save I had besides the one I mentioned that I overwrote, and this time I made sure to ask Juli about the location of the wine cellar, not the hotel desk clerk. Juli marked it on the map for me, but did not mention a historian by the name of Karla and then the conversation just ended. There was no opportunity to ask her about ciphers.

I went to the wine cellar, found the candle and the hotspots and got the appropriate comments from Jonathan. Went back to the house and looked at the map, letters, and ciphers again. Went back to see if I could talk to Juli, but she's busy on the phone and Jonathan won't interrupt her. (?????)

...

Hello, Mag, you posted while I was typing.

I have looked at the cipher, but Jonathan didn't say anything special that I recall.

Thank you very kindly for your reply.

...

Edit # 2:

I went back and found that I had not looked at the black notebook full of handwritten notes. Only then did Jonathan comment when looking at the ciphered note, where he hadn't before. I was just now able to go talk to Juli and arrive at the cafe to see Karla there.

Thank you for your help, Mag!

I feel that you missed looking close and getting a comment when you checked all the documents on the desk at Kocsis. That should get you thinking about scripts. Check also your inventory and look at them. Maybe that paper that has the script will trigger it.

I also sent you my first set of saves.

Great that you found out what was holding you back. Have fun.

Thank you for your response, Mag!

I see that you read my second edit. smile

Thank you very kindly, also, for the game saves! Very nice of you!

I will save them, and hope that between your walkthrough and forum posts about problem spots, that I won't have to use them.

If I do, I'll have to go back to the stickied post and read how to install and use game saves. blush

*** A bit off topic, but do you have to purchase a game and go through the game -blind-, so to speak, and figure out the game on your own when you write a walkthrough? I'm always amazed at how quickly you post your walkthroughs, considering the amount of time it must take to go through a game, take extensive notes, and then write a walkthrough to be posted here. I kind of wondered if you perhaps you had early access to a new game, and correspondence with developers, to be able to write such a thorough walkthrough, complete with screenshots in so short an amount of time. Just curious. smile

Thanks again! This is a fascinating game.

LadyCav,

You're welcome. Enjoy this great game.

Yes, usually I buy the game and play from scratch.
Sometimes we get a walkthrough copy as well as a review copy from the publisher.
There are times I do get an earlier copy but that is a thing of the past. lol Lately, I get them the same time other gamers do.
If I have problems or stumpers, I do get help from either the reviewer, the developer or other gamers playing the game already.

Thanks very much, Mag. I've always wondered! smile
... have much admiration that you can get a walkthrough done so quickly, in just a day or two or three after a game comes out! praise

Back to the game, I have an antiques dealer to find. Really neat game!

Finished!

That was a great game! As you said, Mag, fine acting and a really good story line that really kept me saying, oh- just one more hour before I quit!

We had bad storms and the tornado sirens went off last night and I found that I was not nearly as worried about the possibility of a tornado as I was totally irritated smirk that I had to shut my computer down and get ready to hunker down, if need be. I was extremely engaged running all over town in the last chapter looking for obscure clues and hated to have to stop!

Your w/t was invaluable in that last chapter. Thanks! smile
