First I would like to say for anyone who has never heard of the Sims that the game is basically a virtual dollhouse that you may play whichever way you choose (game permitting). Here is the trailer for generations: youtube generations
This will be a review of sorts. I wasn't able to play install Generations until today so I'm a bit late to the party. All I have to say is...
Wow, this is the first time I've played Sims for more than 2 hours that wasn't due to creating/decorating Sims and houses--nice work, EA!
At first there was a little bit of lag but once I removed a mod I hadn't seen in my folder everything ran much smoother. There is lag once in a while, but mostly going from live to build/buy or lots, which is more than fine considering I'm playing on a laptop with mostly high settings.
There aren't any new towns but the interactions, sense of family, and realism that were lacking before (mindless drones, anyone?) completely made up for it. The new houses are decent and the park is very nice with its kid-oriented theme.
The age bar I've wished for for a while now and the hair sliders are a nice touch. The "claw" interaction for toddlers is adorable with their faces frozen in terror. I wasn't sure I would like pranks too much but they are actually quite fun, particularly the shower hair dye one. Unfortunately for Misa, she got caught and had to clean around the house, yikes!
The imaginary friend was a bit of an issue because my CAS toddler wasn't receiving one at first. Once I got the doll, however, I was pleasantly surprised. The fun meter on my child Sims never seem to go down with the friend around and it's amusing for the parent(s) to try to mop a puddle and complain when it moves on it's "own". Thankfully, the doll does revert to its babydoll self when a child sleeps. I was worried it would just creep there. Here is the imaginary friend:

Overall, I would say that Generations has surprised me in more ways than one and I have not even done half of the things included with it yet. Weddings, Chemistry, Dating, Prom, Driving Learning, Bachelor/rette parties, etc are still to be discovered. I highly suggest you buy this expansion pack if you haven't yet. When Sims 3 Pets comes out, the interactions and sense of fulfillment will be achieved even further smile
Here also is a trailer for the upcoming Pets expansion: sims 3 pets
