i too have the game in hand, but after reading kadycav's comments i'm somewhat reluctant to even open it. i am not sure why but in my head i had thought it was going to be new and exciting, and it sounds as if it is neither

Hey jadekitten
Check out the game on you tube and see if it is what you'll like before opening it. She didn't seem to walk slowly on there.

LadyCav
Maybe you can turn down some things in the option menu and see if that works.

Thanks, Cathy1, I'll look at the options when I try another install. (I rarely have to look at options since most games are perfect, as is, when I install.) I'll wait a day or two and see if there are any posts about experiences some others have with the game.

LadyCav, thanks for the advice, and sorry I'm late this time. smile Work has been hectic this past week. Luckily, it appears my game finally shipped a couple of days ago. rah

Will have to see what I think of the 3D. Even if it is underwhelming, the game itself looks fun. Do you like the story at all, or did you not get a feel for it yet because you were frustrated by the slow walking? Understandable if so. Hope you are able to tweak the settings so that the game becomes playable for you. I had to do this for Memento Mori, and I have a fairly new computer. You just never know.

Venus, glad your game is on its way! I hope that you enjoy it. Don't let my comments dissuade you. It's so different from previous games with the new 3D, that things don't move quite as quickly, perhaps for the effect. I'm not far enough into the game to really know about the story line yet. I still have to ctrl/alt/del to end the game but maybe your computer won't do that.

I turned off a couple of the settings, but the character still walks slowly. You kinda get used to it. Settings are volume, 3D on/off, particles on/off, refraction effects on/off, special effects on/off, and light on/off. I'm not really sure what some of them do. Double click would have been nice, but that's allright. I turned off a couple of the effects, but didn't really notice much difference. I've been able to progress some on my second install, having started over, and will be curious to hear your views when you finally get to play.

Happy gaming! smile

Edit to add: Oh my goodness! This game certainly does get very complex the further you get into it! I've played for 8 hours now and I have dozens of inventory items and at least half a dozen locations with goals to accomplish! The only thing is to figure out which area to concentrate on first. I'm definitely enjoying this game!! smile

LadyCav, glad to see you are enjoying it more now. I had set it aside because it wasn't grabbing me initially. For one thing, I was upset that the game made me associate it with my steam account. The reason I prefer disk copies to downloading games is so I don't have to deal with the DRM. The fact that it can only run through a site on the internet doesn't sit well with me.

I agree with you about the 3D and think I will play it in 2D. The colors look strange - too many reds and blues from the glasses' lenses. I didn't have a problem with Alyssa moving slowly as you did, though the lack of the double click may bother me after a while. Also, I wasn't crazy about the voice acting, and the story wasn't grabbing me. Since I have a lot of other games to play, I had set it aside and decided to get back to it later.

Nevertheless, I still find the premise intriguing, which is what made me want to get the game in the first place. Glad to hear that it improves significantly. Having so many inventory items and locations later definitely sounds promising. What do you think of the characters in the game now that you've been playing for a while? And do you like Alyssa as a protagonist? I thought the idea of playing as a rock performer sounded fun, and her look reminds me of Razor from Maniac Mansion. smile

Hi venus,

I finished the game already. It takes a while to get really interesting, but hang in there and it will start coming together. I felt the same as you at first. There are some really interesting locations and tasks to accomplish once you get past the first couple of locations. I wasn't keen on the Steam thing either, as I wasn't aware about this happening, but it's okay.

I liked the 2D color better, and my eyes would tire (wearing bifocals) after a while. It does improve and throws a few twists in here and there. I liked the Alyssa character and there are some fun parts in it. It is a challenge to figure out what inventory item to use or combine, at times, but is not undoable, especially with in games hints.

It was a fun romp, and I hope you feel like getting back to the game before long! smile

Wait, wait, let me get this straight. Are you saying that to play a boxed copy of the game you have to go through a Steam account?

Gil ... Yep!

I'd never run across it before, and I posted a few problems in the glitches thread. One of the moderators said that there indeed ARE boxed copies of games that have to be associated with Steam in order to be validated. I had to type in the serial number on the Steam page to activate the game. First time experience for me. I wasn't too keen on it, but it was the only way to install the game. It's even listed on my list of Steam games, even though they don't sell the game.

Well, I've got to tell you, Lady Cav, Viva Media has just lost a sale. Thank you for clearing that up.

Thanks, LadyCav, sounds promising. I'll definitely get back to it. Got a little distracted by A New Beginning today, which is really good so far. Good to know that there is yet another good game to look forward to. This has been a strong year for games. thumbsup

Traveler, I don't blame you. I probably wouldn't have gotten it either had I known that. Now that I have it, though, it would be a waste not to play it. Hope you are able to find something else that interests you soon. smile

Venus, I've got so many games waiting I doubt I'll have time to regret this one. I hope this doesn't become a habit for the game publishers, though. If it does, I'll end up playing all my future games in D-Fend Reloaded or Scumm VM or buying them from GOG because they're old and free of any publisher's stranglehold.

Traveler,

I am feeling like you are about this game. Not sure if I should buy it. The glitches forum had a thread about it and there was info about how to get around the Steam site. I've never been on Steam so would have to try to follow the work around. Not sure if it is worth the trouble though.

Well, you either like the idea of Steam or you don't, oldbroad, and I don't. I much prefer GOG's 'hands off' approach and if that means missing some new games, so be it.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on with the release of this game through Adventureshop, I preordered it when it first went up for preorder, and everytime the day before the scheduled release, it is bumped. It has just been bumped until the 22nd. I e-mailed them but just got a we are sorry, but the scheduled release date is (insert new release date here). If anyone has closer ties to adventureshop and knows any details, it would be nice to know.

Thanks for the help BrownEyedTigre, but tomorrow is the 16th, and this is what my preorder page for the game says.

So I guess it's delayed for another week.

No big deal I guess, but I have been really looking forward to this game

The game is going to be released by The Adventure Shop in the next 24 hours.

The reason for the delay is The Adventure Shop's request to the developers that the game be Steam-free."

That has now been resolved.

--------------

As additional information: the disk version has to go through Steam. You have to install Steam and activate the game through Steam.

That's great that TAS has eased the restrictions on the game! Hopefully that will encourage those who weren't thrilled about the Steam activation to download the game and give it a try. smile
