If you wish to discuss the Game Manager you may do so here. The last thread was too long so it was closed but you can access it here.

Remember to keep your posts focused on the game Manager and not as a flaming thread against BigFish please and thank you.

Ana thanks

The fact that the first GB GM 3.0 thread was closed mirrors what is happening at BFG. This is something that won't go away.

BFG has managed to get rid of some of the bugs but not all of them. And it is the "not all of them" that is continuing to energize first-time and long-time BFG subscribers alike to wonder what the problem is.

I suspect it is that BFG does not have a technology focus and what BFG is trying to solve happens to be a technology problem.

MrLipid, I am not quite sure how to take your comment, but if you are questioning my intent in locking the thread I will explain. In order to save the bandwidth that it takes to open a large thread we have a policy of locking them and starting a new one if the discussion is not over. We do the same thing for the Name of the Game fun thread in Discussions and word games in Mixed Bags.

I meant only that the closing of the original thread "mirrors" what has happened at BFG. Not that it implies in any way that GB is avoiding the issue. It is that the issue is creating these massive threads because the issue won't go away.

The GB forums give all of us gamers the opportunity to freely discuss what concerns us without constraint.

Sorry for any confusion.

OK, ruffled feathers or not, I feel it is right to say what is happening to me, and this is the latest, yes I have gone off Big Fish, but after over 4 years it is not willingly that I am going, it is because my problem cannot be solved and I do not want to do any more to my computer.
I have just had another reply from BF support, now they want me to remove my Antivirus and Firewall and other programs try again, if it still does not work I can re-install the programs from the web-sites, and do loads of other things,
have told them that I am not prepared to do anything more on my computer when the problem is there's,
Now will have a fight to get back a credit that I cannot use.
Another customer lost!!!

Keep going, the feeling great at the end.

Oh. that's not on.
Trying to get you to remove your computer protection in order to solve their problem is just scandalous, in my opinion. They are using their customers as guinea pigs.
I'm not having major problems except that everything is now so slow. Last night I downloaded a demo and it downloaded the new version GM too. The download for that and the game was even slower than before.
I might have to change to another site too if that gets worse. I don't have a speedy connection to start with.

I am really sorry to hear my fellow boomers are having issues with the new game manager. I am not a fan of the new one either. Mainly, I have noticed that downloading screen shots of new offers is very slow. Everything else is working well.

BF is not alone in requesting you disable anti-virus programs while installing their manager. Other programs do the same. It is only a temporary measure while installing their software. Once installed, you enable your anti-virus again. Hoping this helps you allay any fears you many have about this.

BF has always been quite helpful and cooperative for me and I hope that policy continues.

I agree I have always found BF very good, love there games, have always had help, but this time it is not so,
I have tried removing AntiVirus and Firewall, but it made no difference to me,

By the way, have just bought a game from Alawar, so easy, same price as BF, no commitments, you pay for what you want, installed so quick,

Keep going, the feeling great at the end.

For those unhappy BFG customers, has anyone tried "Gamezebo"? Their games are priced the same as BFG ($6.99 and $13.99 for CE), plus game reviews and walkthroughs. Just another alternative for you gamers. wave

Gamezebo is a website just like GameBoomers is. THey just link you to other portals so you could find yourself downloading from any number of sources including BigFish.

Thanks for the info Ana, didn't know that. Just trying to suggest something for the poor gamers who are having trouble with the BFG game manager. I usually only go there to get game reviews and not buy games.

Here's a partial list of alternatives, some mentioned already.

Alawar
Amazon (downloadable casual games)
Awem
Gogii
Sandlot Games
Steam

Meanwhile, BFG is having a $ 4.99 sale today for new members only. Coincidence?

I don't like the new manager's lack of custom sorting option. Otherwise I have no problems with it.

I've just started a download demo from Alawar of the same game that i downloaded yesterday from BFG. It is definitely downloading faster. 45 minutes as opposed to well over an hour.
However I can't find the price of games on the website. I emailed Alawar and they said the price information was when you come to the payment stage. Also there seems to be no mechanism for buying a game until you've played the demo.
So do I have to play for an hour to come to the point where I find out how much the game will eventually cost?
If this is the case I don't think this website is for me. I like people to be up front about their prices.
Am I missing something obvious here? It's an unfamiliar website so I'm probably doing something stupid.

Meryl, I think, once you've downloaded, you will have the choice to play the trial or buy. If you decide to buy your game is activated and no further download is required. smile

Another site to add to the list of alternatives is Wild Tangent Games. wink

The best math you can learn is how to calculate the future cost of current decisions.

No, it's not like they make a big deal out of what you have to pay. If you click on any game, it will take you to that game's page and on it you'll see something like All the fun, none of the limits with Alawar Unlimited.

Click on it and you'll see their pricing. Or just keep reading. Here's their pricing:

What you get!

One pass for all our games
No download limitations
Fast download speeds
The new game is a weekly
100% secure and confidential
Crystal Clear games
24 / 7 customer support

Create an account and choose your pricing:

12 months
Full Access — Save 50% and more
$99.95

1 month
Full Access — Most popular plan
$29.95

1 day
Full Access — Try us out

It's prettier on their website, but that's the gist.

Sherlock, Wild Tangent is like GameHouse or Iwin. You will end up with tons of Spam and lots of spyware installed on your computerl. I would not suggest you use them.

I tried last night to dowload a game for the first time since I got the new game manager. I still have screen that says something like "Game stub being Installed". I can't get it to stop and it's been going since yesterday. I can't download any game without this message coming up. It doesn't show up in my task manager either as downloading. Any one know how I can get rid of it?
