I've seen this problem reported before on the Big Fish forums, Kim, but I don't know the fix. If I see anything useful, I will let you know. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Game Manager? wave

Marian, her computer may not let her uninstall if an installation file is open. She'll probably have to get rid of it first. Rebooting should take care of that. It has for me in a similar situation.

By 'get rid of it', I mean close that file.

That was my problem exactly, Kim, when my computer told me I had to close out of a file before I could delete it. What file? Where? There's nothing related to that open! (Not that I could see anyway.) So, I restarted. Whew!

Let us know how it goes and if uninstalling then reinstalling the game manager accomplishes anything but make another reboot necessary.

Gil.

Ok here's what happened. I rebooted the computer without uninstalling GM. Then I downloaded a BF game and got a screen that said a Game Stub was being installed. This time it installed and said it was replacing my current game manager, which I just got a week ago. The game I downlaoded then installed. I have not a clue as to what just happened but hopefully the newer new game manager will work. confused

Here's hoping things will work now. There was indeed an update to the new Game Manager released in the past week (maybe there were two updates in the last week; I don't remember the exact release dates). wave

Ok....Boy...This new GM is causing quite a stir..All I can say is that I "Agree" With "Ana" I would never go to another site for games....Most are Loaded with Spam...I am Sure BigFish will get to the bottom of the problems, and it will be fixed soon...Its a new GM...So give BF some time to help all.

I hope you all stay faithful to BigFish...

Ana, thanks for the heads up regarding Wild Tangent. I personally have never used them. (I'm secretly one of those that is loyal to Big Fish.) It was something that appeared on my new laptop and it looked intriguing so I thought I'd pass it on. But, I'd never want to give up privacy just to play. wink

I am also having trouble with the new manager cry so uninstalled it and discovered that if you go to the folder where the game is located (ie program files) and look for a "grayed out" ".exe" file, you can play the games on your computer without the game manager. rah I will buy new games from the other sources mentioned while BFG gets this issue sorted out. Also has anyone used Fenomen games? I downloaded a trial (without a game manager) and it was really fast and their prices seem to be the same as BFG.

Can you believe that I downloaded and purchased Midnight Mysteries Devil On The Mississippi twice from BFG and it would not play at all. I checked out Gamehouse ten minutes ago and the demo downloaded and it actually worked. I did encounter a couple of ads before the game began but broccoli broccoli broccoli I am actually playing the game. To their credit they give me a credit for another game but I so want to play this game.

lexxy, be wary of GameHouse, it may play well but they they silently install all kinds of cookies on your computer that tracks your movement on the web, as well as items you burn on a cd etc. Your spam mail and pop ups will increase also.

I went there and downloaded a game trial from Fenomen. The BFG game manager started to install immediately when I clicked on the game application.

I'm not sure what you mean, Ana. Back awhile, I bought The Clockwork Man from Total Eclipse...a developer, not so?...and the game is mine. No intermediate installer.

Gil, Fenomen is a game developer and I believe the downloads can come from a variety of sources. This may explain.

Thanks, Ana. I see. Fenomen chooses not to sell their games directly whereas Total Eclipse still sells their Clockwork Man games directly even though you can get them through Big Fish as well.

Ana,

Thanks for the headsup concerning Gamehouse and thanks to Jenny100 I know where I can get the game w/o any problems. I will go to Amazon and purchae the game out right. I have played enough of the demo to know that I want it s maybe now would be a good time to uninstall Gamehouse and move on.

I think I might have found my problem, thought I would tell you encase it is the same for anyone else, I have been told I have a corrupt file called 'mapi32.dill' it affects the e-mailing part of the computer, which was one of the things BF kept telling me to do, Mailwarebyts, ect.
so now all I might have to do is try and 'get rid' of it, which at the moment I am getting help, slow but sure,

Keep going, the feeling great at the end.

Update on the Midnight Mysteries: Devil on Mississippi game that wouldn't play through a purchase from BFG and the new game manager (no, I didn't do a trial first).

Per Jenny's suggestion - above post, I downloaded a trial test from Amazon and it starts & plays just fine, so I will now purchase the game from them. Interesting I couldn't get it to start/play even with BFG tech support's help.

Know they are trying to help those having problems, but maybe someone else who was having trouble with this game and really wanted to play would be able to get it to work by testing it at Amazon.

Hope this helps happydance

I'm glad to hear you're able to play the Amazon version. Devil on the Mississippi was a good game.

Let's take a moment to reflect on what this means.

A gamer finds a title that cannot be played when downloaded from BFG plays flawlessly when downloaded from Amazon.

The issue does not lie in the games or in the distribution method. The issue is in the BFG Game Manager.

Does the Game Manager work for some? Yes. Why? No idea. And that's the problem that BFG is asking those for whom it doesn't work to be patient about. For a month and counting.

I have to believe there is a time when one's patience begins to wear thin. I know mine has.
