If, as a youngster, you had electric trains (I had Lionel) the TENDER was behind the steam engine "holding fuel" coal or wood or whatever... and "supple" is a synonym of tender (one of many).

NOTE: following not a complaint(s): I just checked "tender" and see that "supple" is listed as a synonym (dictionary.com); so I'm flabbergasted, since I earlier looked up "supple" in about 10 online thesaurus (including Babylon's that shows everything but the kitchen sink!) and found only these 3 possibilities: svelte, clever and gentle. Also grease using supple as a verb. I guess it matters little in my case, as I never had a Lionel train, so would never have made that connection.

The "tender" (fuel car) was not something specific to Lionel trains. OK... maybe this is less devious... maybe not.  Changes shift anions (11) 4 vowels
