Hi misskedi, First, double check that you've set the bars correctly. Are you using the *knife* on the third rope from the right? Just clicking on it won't work.  Note where the rope is in relation to the mechanism on the wall at right, so you're looking in the right place.

No, I meant, not to just left-click on the rope with an empty cursor. In your post you referred to "pulling" the rope, which suggested to me that you were just clicking on it. Whereas you need to pick the knife up out of inventory and click that onto the rope.
I don't have any saves for this game and haven't been able to source any, but if we wait hopefully MaG or a member will have one at the point you need.

My saves are not labeled but I can send you a group and you can check if one of them will work for you. Even if you can't see the symbols between the bars (selected ones) - count off how far they are from either the center or the end. Check where it is positioned. Set it that way - also click the switch at center to point either right or left. Copy the solution in the walkthrough.
