I decided to re-play Kyrandia but it seems no matter what I try ScummVm can't/won't find the game. Even downloaded the newest version of ScummVm and the data item, still no luck.

Can someone help me with an explicit description of how to get Kyrandia loaded into ScummVm so I can play it again?

Using WinXP3 with nVidia. Have updated everything else since playing Kyrandia the last time several years ago.

Thank you~

I haven't used ScummVM to play Kyrandia myself, but according to the instructions ***here*** you have to put the kyra.dat resource file in the game directory. Have you done that? Having the kyra.dat file on your computer won't do any good if it's in the wrong place.

Also, you may have to tell ScummVM where the game is if it can't find it on its own. Look for a browse button (or something similar).

Thanks Jenny, but I've done all that.
How do you get Kyrandia to run?

Why not use DOSBox, the game play flawlessly under it.

Here's what I had to do on a Mac to get it to find the game:

Copied the contents of the game disc to a folder on the hard drive.

Click Add Game
Open ScummVM, clicked Add Game, and selected the game folder.
It didn't find anything.

So I selected Eng folder inside Kyrandia folder.
It still didn't find anything.

So I selected folder named "1" inside Eng folder that is inside Kyrandia folder.

NOW it lets me choose.
I chose The Legend of Kyrandia (CD/DOS/English)

The game is now in my ScummVM game list and I can click the Start button to start the game.

I did the same thing Jenny100 but also the kyra.dat file was in the ScummVM directory not the Kyrandia directory tree.

I think maybe I need another cup of coffee, just composed an answer and then forgot to submit it.

Inland, reading the instructions for DOSBox always sends my brain into hiding. However I will really work on learning how to work DOSBox this time, thanks~

Jenny, all I saw the first time reading through your post was the Mac, re-reading I finally saw what you meant and will certainly give that a try. Thanks~

sarahandus, if you do have to use DOSBox, get D-Fend Reloaded and use that. It's...I dunno...a simplified version of DOSBox and even I managed to install a game with it.

Gil.

Thank you all for the help and support. smile

Jenny, it worked! I can now play both Kyrandia book 1 & 2 on ScummVm.

Inland, I still can't figure out how to work DOSBox, but I will keep working on it.

Traveler, That sounds like what I need, something simple.

I just downloaded D-Fend REloaded and tried to get Malcolm's revenge to work using it. I "drag and dropped" it into the box but when I click "run" it always says "A cd-rom device driver is required to run Kyrandia 3. I do have the disk in the disk drive. What am I not doing right? Thanks.

I've always added games through the Profile Wizard, so I'm not sure what Drag & Drop would have done.

If you see an entry in the list of installed games, right click the entry and select "Edit". Click "Drives" from the profile menu and add a CD-ROM device.
