There's a walkthrough here for Secret of Margrave Manor 2, but I'm not finding a walkthrough for the first game. There's a forum for the game on Big Fish, though, and maybe someone can help you past your stuck point. Where exactly are you stuck?

Well, hmm spoke too soon. All we have done is pick up about a dozen items for inventory & checked out the 2 rooms in the farmhouse, the garage, can't get into the dark room, tried to light the lantern but no luck

I found some tips here. It's not much, but maybe there's something there that will help.
