Have you ever wondered, why every so often a game comes along and you just can't wait for the sequel. What is the (it) story, play, puzzles? Games like, Broken Swords, Gabriel Knight's, Delaware St.John's, The Riddle of the Sphinx, are we waiting for a shoe to drop or an universal end? Charllotte

It's a game with a good story, an interesting and preferably likable protagonist (or two, or three), inventory puzzles and some humor that I like best. (I seem to be almost alone in preferring games that are linear, where there is a logical progression from one thing to the next. It may not always be easy to figure out but it's there.) The Book of Unwritten Tales and Lost Horizon pretty much fulfilled all of that for me so I really do look forward to sequels coming along. Some games are so right as stand-alones that I can't imagine and don't want a sequel. I suppose you can figure out one of them. Gil.

I guess it's the same thing that attracts you to another person. There are games that I just instantly fall in love with and can;t explain why. It's just a feeling you get while playing that isn't there in other games. Ana

I certainly liked the way the Gabriel Knight series kept the main protagonists but developed changes in the relationships between some of them - as would be likely to happen in a "true" story

Each good series has its own reason. Like mentioned about, in GK it's less about the puzzles and much more about the characters themselves. In Myst it's mostly about exploring beautiful surreal worlds and solving well integrated puzzles, in Rehm it's about giving a good fitness train to your brain :-)

Traveler, if you mean Grim Fandango, I agree. I think it's perfect as is, and a sequel would actually harm it in a way. It had the perfect ending and doesn't need to continue. As for sequels, I like to follow characters/storylines, so that is the main draw for me personally. I would love to see a GK4, of course and TLJ/Dreamfall needs to have a sequel. I really hope Culpa Innata eventually is able to get funded because there were so many loose threads there I want to see play out. Ditto about the loose threads for The Lost Crown. While the first Black Mirror was my favorite, I think 2 and 3 added to the story immensely and made the world so much richer. Loved the whole series and wouldn't mind a fourth if done well and not made to come across as overkill. And the Secret Files games, while not as well written as the others I've mentioned, are just quirky and fun, and I know I'm going to have a good time when a new one comes along.

I certainly agree about Still Life 2, Jenny100 But wasn't there a question of a company take-over going on or maybe financing difficulties or something ?? [I can't remember.] A sequel I definitely felt to be a disappointment was Monkey Island 4. The 3rd Monkey Island wasn't in the same league as the original two but when the 4th came out I felt well and truly let down

And as much as I like the Myst series and enjoy the games, plot wise, I think it should have ended at Myst 4. Myst 5 was suddenly totally irrelevant and had to do with something else... they just named it "Myst 5" because they knew it would sell more. I would of course want Cyan to produce more games, and they could even deal with the D'ni, linking books and all, but "Myst", I think, should be sealed now. It was a beautiful journey, it came to an end, and it should not be abused (so I think) I feel the same for Syberia. Syberia 1 and 2 complete each other so well, I really don't see a need for a sequel. Sure, one can ask himself "what happens with Kate", but I don't find this question the sort of question who needs to be answered. We can all speculate what happens with her... more importantly was, for me, how the journey effected her, and not whether she goes back to real life as a lawyer or stays there to ride mammoths.
Rhem can continue forever, since it has no plot :-) But yeah, I would pay A LOT for sequels of: 1. GK!! (and I mean A LOT!) 2. TLJ I would also like a Gray Matter sequel, with the hope they'll improve the puzzles, animations and cut-scenes. And generally make the game a little deeper.
