It's been one of those days, you know the kind, and I was grumpy and out of sorts (who, me?) so I opened up my music folder and started playing themes from Adventure Games.

It's just amazing how much great music is known only to those of us who really love these games. At the moment, I'm listening to the theme from Sanitarium. Before that, it was The Girl in the Tower from KQ 6, then Syberia, and in a minute it will be Gabriel Knight 1 and 2, and Myst IV, a game I have never played so I don't know where I got that but the main theme is fabulous.

I feel a lot more relaxed now and I was wondering what some of your favorite music from Adventure Games might be. I may have to go and collect more. wink

Gil.

I love Game music and have made a few Cd's that consist entirely of my favorite songs and music from adventure games that I play while driving. Brings back memories of the feelings I had when first playing each game.

There doesn't seem to be as many songs as there are musical or orchestrated but here is one of my favorite songs. Its from the original game Jack the Ripper. 3 Ravens

Myst 4 has a great orchestral soundtrack. My favorite adventure game music is from Machinarium. I just like how sad and mellow it is.

I also loved the music in Gray Matter...I thought it was a key part of the atmosphere and made the graphic novel cutscenes work. Book of Unwritten Tales has some great original music also. I sometimes find myself whistling or humming that flute solo from early in the game.

I thought the music from Gabriel Knight 3 was so good that I burned it to a CD. The theme song is particularly a favorite of mine.

For anyone who really likes music as a part of their game, playing Shivers 2 is a must. It's about a band that disappears in a town, and many of the puzzles revolve around clues in the lyrics.

Thanks for the links Colpet, I'd completely forgotten about the soundtrack in Gabe 3 - I just love the way the music from all 3 games is different but go together if that makes sense! crazy

Shivers 2 sounds enticing!

I must admit that after playing Gray Matter I don't even remember there being any music in the game. Seeing as there are so many that rave about it I better at least find the soundtrack and listen to it.

My top two games for music are Gabriel Knight 2 and Dreamfall. The first for it's regular ambient game music and then the elaborate opera at the end. How many games have an opera composed for them? I'm not even a fan of opera, and I loved it.

Dreamfall is second because of it's varied and fitting soundtrack. I felt that all of the music fit the mood of the game perfectly, and I wouldn't mind owning that soundtrack.

Also in agreement with all the Gray Matter mentions. thumbsup

And then there is TLJ as well as the rest of the GK series, Grim Fandango, most of Culpa Innata, Syberias 1 and 2, Still Life. Loom also had an excellent soundtrack.

Ana, that's interesting that you have that reaction to game music. I have that reaction to subtitles, whereas I know most players love and prefer them. I'm always looking at the words instead of what's going happening on the screen, and it annoys me. lol

The only ones I can think of are the songs 3 Ravens from Jack the Ripper and (don't know the name)some song that was in Dreamfall. I also like the Carol Reed music. Other than those, the music has mostly stayed in the background and I don't remember it.

There are some good songs in Faust, & I liked the theme song for Runaway. I read in the credits the song was sung by a group called "Liquor".

Lela and I have been collecting music from games for years and placed both the theme music and other music from about 40 games onto our MP3 players. Such as the theme of Maniac Mansion, the song Freddie Pharkas sung by Al Lowe, the beautiful music of Syberia (including the song sung by Helena), Journey to the Center of the Earth, Atlantis II and many more. We play them often. Quite a large number of games had their music end up on CDs. Most were available in Europe. I'll have to see if I can make a list of them for you collector's out there. Here are a few that I can remember.

Atlantis II
Faust
Jack Orlando
The Neverhood
Myst III, IV, V and URU
Comer
Zork Grand Inquisitor
Return to Zork sountrack is on the game CD

I'll see if I can put a complete list together of the CDs I know of and also a list of Websites where you can download some game music. GOG also provides some game music for some of the games they sell.

Cheers,

Mr. Bill

Not really into jazz, but that sax in between chapters of Under A Killing Moon was and is VERY nice. Also, the music as Tex enters the Mayan Temple for the first time in Pandora Directive is excellent. I also liked the music in The Dig.

I really liked the Gabriel knight music. Gray matter had pretty good tracks as well.

I like the music in Syberia, Return To Mysterious Island and Nancy Drew Curse Of Blackmoor Manor. The music can really get one involved in the atmosphere of the games!

The beginning of Discworld II, where Eric Idle sings, "That's Death." Truly a classic. thumbsup
